Junior Construction Estimator


Location: Philadelphia, PA – Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Competitive, Based on Experience

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Construction Estimator to join our commercial construction team. This position will support the estimating department with material research, vendor and subcontractor pricing, quantity takeoffs, lead-time tracking, estimate preparation, and bid support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial construction estimating while gaining hands-on experience working with experienced estimators and management.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Review project plans, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work 
  •  Research construction materials and determine products required for projects 
  •  Assist with quantity takeoffs and estimate worksheets 
  •  Request, obtain, and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors 
  •  Track material costs, vendor quotes, and current lead times 
  •  Enter quantities, pricing, and vendor information into estimating software and spreadsheets 
  •  Assist with preparing detailed project estimates and bid proposals 
  •  Review estimates with senior estimators and management before bid submission 
  •  Maintain organized records of vendor and subcontractor quotes 
  •  Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors 
  •  Monitor pricing changes and update estimating databases 
  •  Assist with value engineering by researching cost-effective materials and alternatives 
  •  Help identify potential cost, schedule, and material issues 
  •  Maintain accurate estimating documentation and project files 
  •  Perform additional estimating and administrative duties as assigned 
Qualifications

  •  High school diploma or equivalent required 
  •  Associate's degree, construction education, or related training preferred 
  • 1–2 years of construction, estimating, purchasing, or project coordination experience preferred
  •  Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 
  •  Basic understanding of commercial construction practices and materials 
  •  Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications or willingness to learn 
  •  Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills 
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook 
  •  Professional communication skills with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams 
  •  Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines 
  •  Strong willingness to learn and develop within the estimating field 
Preferred Skills

  •  Experience with Contractor Foreman, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar estimating software
  •  Knowledge of commercial construction materials and building methods 
  •  Experience with quantity takeoffs and bid preparation 
  •  Familiarity with public works or government construction projects 
  •  Construction purchasing or vendor management experience
