Position: Residential Advisor ESH, ESHRC & RSFR   

Department: Eliza Shirley House                                

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full Time, Part Time, & On Call positions available; Multiple shifts available

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Operations Manager.

Salary/Grade: 74, Non-Exempt

About the Red Shield Family Residence, Eliza Shirley House &, Eliza Shirley House Resolution Center: The Salvation Army offers a safe and welcoming emergency housing program offering loving, respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental services to empower residents to strive towards self-sufficiency. The goal is to support individuals experiencing homelessness address immediate barriers to self sufficiency, identify and access longer term housing support, and resolve their immediate housing crisis. All populations experiencing homelessness, including single men and women, couples, and families with children are accepted.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: The Residential Advisor (RA) is responsible for the safety and welfare of shelter residents through the administration of house rules pertaining to resident conduct, fire safety, room conditions, and curfew restrictions.  The RA conducts house and room checks, answers the telephone, greets visitors, checks in new residents, checks out departing residents, prepares a house report, manages sign-in logs, calls residents to meals and monitors mealtimes, responds to emergencies to ensure that, if necessary, residents are evacuated safely and efficiently, responds to residents needs and requests, and is responsible for shift specific activities. Can clearly document and communicate issues and concerns to House Manager. Effectively communicates with other house management shifts, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to read, write and speak well in English
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Programs and be proficient in and the ability to utilize the internet.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an appreciation for and understanding of the mission of The Salvation Army.
