SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Bilingual EHS Coordinator supports a safe and compliant workplace by implementing environmental, health, and safety programs. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, investigating incidents, delivering safety training, monitoring regulatory compliance, and partnering with on-site teams to identify hazards and implement corrective actions. The role also collaborates with the Learning and Development team to identify safety-related learning needs and support training content development.

The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Mandarin and can provide accurate interpretation and translation support for Mandarin-speaking expatriate managers, ensuring safety procedures, expectations, and training are clearly understood across language and cultural differences.

Responsibilities

Safety Programs & Compliance

  • Provide daily EHS support to assigned operational departments, project teams, supervisors, and field personnel.
  • Attend departmental meetings and provide updates on safety performance, concerns, trends, action items, and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, pre-task meetings, and other required safety activities.
  • Conduct field walkthroughs, hazard assessments, PPE compliance checks, and safety inspections.
  • Take immediate action, including exercising stop-work authority when necessary, if an imminent danger or serious safety risk is identified.
  • Monitor work activities involving filter replacement, ceiling access, fall protection, cleanroom entry, and active facility areas.
  • Support incident reporting and investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective-action tracking.
  • Maintain safety reports, training records, inspection logs, and other compliance documentation.
  • Provide interpretation support for Mandarin-speaking expatriate managers on-site and clearly communicate safety expectations to both Mandarin- and English-speaking employees. 
  • Assist with new-hire onboarding, including required safety orientation and training.


Learning & Development Support


  • Collaborate with the Learning & Development (L&D) team to gather safety-related learning needs, field examples, and practical information from project sites — including on-site photos, experience-sharing, and other reference materials to support learning content development.
  • Provide field information and practical experience to support the development and maintenance of safety training materials and related learning resources, based on EHS or L&D needs.
  • Collect feedback from learners and field teams to support continuous improvement of learning content, and facilitate objective, fact-based communication among EHS, L&D, and field operations.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred 
  • Experience managing the safety efforts on construction projects preferred; prior field experience preferred
  • Ability to work with all construction groups: management, owners, trades and subcontractors
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin preferred, with the ability to support interpretation/translation for Mandarin-speaking expatriate managers on-site.
  • Must have excellent communication, organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety principles, hazard identification, and regulatory compliance concepts (e.g., OSHA standards); willingness to develop deeper expertise on the job.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relay information objectively and factually to cross-functional teams (EHS, L&D, and site operations).
  • Comfortable collecting feedback from diverse stakeholders and synthesizing it for use by others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort learning new digital tools (e.g., LMS platforms, incident-reporting systems).
  • Ability to travel to or work across multiple project/job sites as needed.
  • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OHST, STS-C, OSHA 30).



PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in construction, plumbing, or a related field is preferred.
  • OSHA 500
  • OSHA 510 
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • 2+ years experience working as a safety representative in a construction setting
