Job Summary

The Irrigation Site Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing commercial irrigation installation projects from planning through completion. Reporting directly to the Install Operations Manager, this role manages daily field operations, supervises irrigation installation crews, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. The Irrigation Site Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for irrigation operations, maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction while coordinating labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors. This position is also responsible for mentoring team members, resolving field challenges, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fostering strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee commercial irrigation installation projects from start to finish.
  • Develop project schedules, work plans, and resource allocation strategies to ensure timely project completion.
  • Monitor project budgets, productivity, and performance to achieve operational and financial objectives.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate project requirements and determine installation strategies.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and lead irrigation installation crews ranging from 10 to 15 employees.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Crew Leaders and field employees to improve performance and technical skills.
  • Assign daily work activities and monitor crew productivity.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development initiatives in partnership with management.
  • Promote a positive team culture focused on accountability, safety, and quality workmanship.

Installation Oversight

  • Supervise the installation of irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, sprinklers, piping, pumps, and related components.
  • Ensure all installations meet project specifications, company standards, safety requirements, and client expectations.
  • Perform inspections and quality control reviews throughout project execution.
  • Identify and resolve field issues, design conflicts, and installation challenges.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and local codes.
  • Conduct safety meetings and job site inspections.
  • Promote a safety-first culture across all project sites.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are used properly and safely.

Client & Vendor Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during project execution.
  • Communicate project progress, timelines, and field-related concerns clearly and professionally.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal departments to support project success.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, schedules, and installation documentation.
  • Track labor hours, equipment usage, material consumption, and project progress.
  • Provide regular project updates to management.
  • Assist with project closeout documentation and turnover processes upon completion.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of commercial irrigation installation experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership, superintendent, foreman, or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, installation methods, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and irrigation drawings.
  • Experience managing multiple crews and large-scale commercial projects.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make effective decisions in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial landscape construction.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge of irrigation controllers, smart water management systems, and water conservation practices.
  • OSHA certification or other construction safety credentials.


Work Environment

  • Primarily works outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical equipment, dust, noise, and construction site conditions.
  • May occasionally be exposed to vibration, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring multiple project priorities and deadlines.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate construction equipment and power tools safely.
  • Frequent use of hands, arms, and verbal communication while directing crews and performing inspections.
