Job Description
The Design Engineer plays a critical technical role in delivering high-quality residential and site development projects. The Design Engineer proactively identifies design conflicts, integrates constructability into decision-making, and coordinates directly with clients, municipalities, consultants, and contractors to ensure seamless execution.
Job Functions
- Prepare plan sheets (grading, drainage, utilities, paving) for residential and site development projects with close supervision.
- Perform basic calculations (hydraulics, utility sizing, earthwork).
- Support entitlement and permitting documentation.
- Work directly with internal engineering and design staff to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist with construction administration documentation (clarification sketches, product submittal review, RFI support) when directed.
- Maintain drafting accuracy and follow Spiars’ standards.
CompetenciesÂ
- Foundational civil engineering knowledge and ability to learn quickly.
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and utility tools.
- High attention to detail and strong self-checking habits.
- Clear, concise internal communication.
- Ability to take direction and integrate feedback effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) CertificationÂ
- Experience in land/site development or civil engineering internship
- Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D
