SUMMARY:

The Tooling / Mechanical Engineer supports mold and tooling reliability through precision measurement, CAD modeling, reverse engineering, and hands-on mechanical troubleshooting. This role uses precision hand tools, CMM equipment, Keyence laser scanning systems, and SolidWorks to create accurate prints and models of injection molds and mold components. The position partners with production, quality, maintenance, vendors, and other departments to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, resolve tooling defects, and support production needs through practical engineering solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate precision measurement equipment, including CMM equipment and Keyence laser scanning systems, to inspect, measure, digitize, and validate tooling, parts, and mold components.
  • Use SolidWorks to create, update, and maintain accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and related technical documentation for molds, tooling, replacement components, and production support needs.
  • Reverse engineer injection molds, mold components, tooling details, and legacy parts to develop production-ready prints, models, specifications, and repair documentation.
  • Support other departments and sites with reverse engineering requests, CAD documentation, tooling information, mechanical troubleshooting, and technical problem solving.
  • Troubleshoot mold, tooling, equipment, and process-related issues in partnership with Tool Room, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Conduct and participate in formal root cause analysis activities to identify causes of mold defects, tooling failures, quality concerns, and customer complaints; develop corrective actions that prevent recurrence.

  • Work with internal resources to evaluate, fabricate, modify, or repair tooling components when appropriate, balancing cost, timing, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Maintain organized engineering records, including prints, models, measurement data, reverse engineering procedures, repair documentation, and revision history for repeatability and future reference.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling reliability, equipment performance, part quality, downtime reduction, safety, and cost savings.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, addressing unsafe conditions, participating in corrective actions, following plant safety requirements, and supporting housekeeping and 5S expectations.
  • Follow all applicable food safety and quality procedures, report product or process concerns that may impact consumer safety, and support compliance with facility quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
