The cold forming operator will set up and operate cold forming machines that forge parts from wire stock.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • The operator will troubleshoot machine and part issues using knowledge of upsetting, backward and forward extrusion along with piercing to make product to print. 
  • Receives general direction from team leader and works from set up sheets, detailed machine parts drawings, machine manuals, specifications, tool charts and instruction. 
  • Troubleshoots, replaces worn and broken tooling & parts, diagnoses and repair machine malfunctions, re-sets tooling, gauges work, and makes all machine adjustments necessary to produce parts within specifications. 
  • Wires up machine, troubleshoots transfer and follows progression pieces to make product. 
  • Inspects parts to verify correct dimensions against drawing specifications using various measurement devicesDiagnose and adjust machine as necessary to produce good parts using experience and knowledge to reduce the time machine is down and maximize productivity. 
  • Communicates with operators to exchange relevant information to the work at hand. 
  • Detects and reports faulty machine operation, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies and other conditions to leadership. 
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement activities to assist team in meeting goals including Dynamite Idea program, reporting near misses and 6S. 
  • Installs new set up of machine tooling to operate automatic cold former machines at specified feeds and speeds, to produce good work to quality specifications. 
  • Makes test runs of new pieces, inspects and verifies dimensions against drawing specifications. 
  • Tags containers to ensure product traceability. 
  • Verifies correct raw material is being utilized to produce product. 
  • Completes paperwork such as router, check sheet, SPC charts and non-conformance report. 
  • Find, understand and utilize control plans to ensure product quality. 
  • Find and follow department procedures on computer. 
  • Segregate, document and control non-conforming product. 
  • Inspects parts from every pan to verify product acceptance prior to dumping parts into larger container following the 2-pan inspection system. 
  • Logs on and off time and attendance system properly. 
  • Set process monitor to proper limits to ensure proper machine operation. 
  • Ensures daily preventative maintenance is performed. 
  • Move product, scrap and slugs as needed to proper area.  
  • Keeps work area organized and clean at all times. 
  • Verifies all gages are calibrated prior to use. 
  • Participates in daily stretching activities, team meetings and works well with team members.   
  • Observes all safety regulations in all duties. 
  • Performs other tasks as required.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • 4 plus years of Cold Forming experience.  
  • Mechanical Ability. 
  • Use of micrometers, calipers, comparators, gages, hand tools, etc.  
  • Read and understand blueprints. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. for continued periods during a given shift. 
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 10 hours a day). 
  • Visual acuity. 
  • Clear communication skills.
