Project Controls Manager

What you'll do:
As a Project Controls Manager, you will oversee project financial controls, forecasting, contract compliance, systems, and financial performance across the organization. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Discipline leadership, and Operations to strengthen project profitability, improve financial visibility, and ensure consistent project controls practices.
Project Accounting:
- Oversee proposal financial strategy, including budgets, pricing alignment, margin protection, and contract-ready financial documentation.
- Direct contract review and ensure fee types, billing terms, retainage requirements, and change-management rules are properly implemented.
- Govern Deltek configuration, data standards, project setup consistency, and system enhancements.
- Lead resource planning and utilization strategies across disciplines, ensuring alignment with project financial objectives.
- Oversee forecasting, including budget management, cost-to-complete, revenue planning, and portfolio profitability.
- Manage invoicing performance, billing schedules, and documentation standards.
- Direct AR management strategies, ensuring visibility of aging risks and supporting high-level dispute resolution.
- Lead WIP management practices and ensure project financial accuracy through month-end reporting and closeout.
- Monitor project financial performance and establish processes to identify risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with client, contract, and agency-specific billing requirements, including FDOT and other public sector clients.
- Oversee resource planning and project schedule coordination across disciplines.
- Ensure project schedules align with financial objectives, staffing plans, budgets, and billing milestones.
- Monitor schedule and financial risks and work with Project Managers and Discipline leadership to develop corrective actions.
- Establish consistent project controls practices for schedule and financial performance tracking.
- Establish and maintain standards for contracts, change orders, billing documentation, and financial records.
- Ensure project documentation supports contractual, financial, and audit requirements.
- Oversee project closeout practices to ensure timely final billing, reconciliation, and accurate financial reporting.
- Develop and improve project controls procedures, reporting standards, and systems to support organizational consistency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in project accounting, financial controls, or project administration within the A/E/C industry.
- Strong understanding of project financial management, forecasting, WIP, revenue, billing, profitability, and cost controls.
- Familiarity with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar project accounting software.
- Experience with FDOT or other public agency billing processes is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Discipline leadership, and Operations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
