We are seeking a dedicated Horticulture Assistant to join our Resort Grounds team and help maintain the lush landscapes, seasonal flower displays, and interior plant collections that create an unforgettable experience for our members and guests.

Position Summary

As a Horticulture Assistant, you will support the care and maintenance of the resort's extensive landscapes, gardens, and interior plant displays. This hands-on role includes planting, pruning, watering, fertilization, pest monitoring, and assisting with seasonal landscape projects.

The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in creating beautiful environments, and is eager to learn the principles of horticulture and plant health management.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in the planting and maintenance of annual flower beds, ornamental gardens, shrubs, and decorative landscape displays
  • Care for interior plants and tropical plant collections throughout the resort
  • Water, fertilize, prune, and maintain plant materials to promote healthy growth and appearance
  • Monitor plants for signs of disease, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress
  • Learn pest identification and integrated treatment methods through on-the-job training
  • Assist with landscape improvement and beautification projects throughout the property
  • Safely operate grounds equipment and tools while following established safety procedures
  • Learn the proper use, application, and handling of fertilizers and horticultural chemicals
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and fellow team members
  • Participate in departmental meetings, safety training, and ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Report safety concerns and contribute to a culture focused on workplace safety and environmental stewardship

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

Experience

  • Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture, or related work preferred but not required
  • Experience working with tropical, subtropical, or interior plants is a plus
  • Valid driver's license required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Interest in horticulture, plant care, and landscape maintenance
  • Basic understanding of plant materials and growing conditions preferred
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions year-round
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and grounds equipment safely
  • Ability to work around fertilizers, pesticides, and other horticultural products while following safety guidelines
