Position Purpose

The Powder Paint Team Member is responsible for performing all powder coating operations within the Paint Shop, ensuring components and equipment meet durability, adhesion, and appearance standards required for heavy-duty construction equipment.

 

This role supports the full powder coating process, including surface preparation, application, curing, and finishing, while maintaining high levels of safety, productivity, and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

Powder Coating Operations

  • Perform all aspects of the powder coating process, including surface preparation, application, and curing
  • Apply powder coatings using electrostatic spray systems to ensure proper coverage, adhesion, and finish
  • Monitor coating thickness, consistency, and quality to meet engineering and production specifications
  • Perform touch-ups and rework as needed to meet finish and durability standards

Surface Preparation & Material Handling

  • Prepare components for coating, including cleaning, masking, staging, and pre-treatment
  • Load and unload parts and assemblies using manipulators, conveyors, cranes, or forklifts
  • Safely handle materials to maintain workflow efficiency and prevent damage

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain powder coating equipment, including spray guns, booths, and curing ovens
  • Perform routine maintenance such as:
    • Cleaning spray systems
    • Monitoring filters and air flow
    • Ensuring equipment calibration and proper function
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment or process issues to maintain production uptime

Quality Control & Inspection

  • Inspect coated parts for finish quality, coverage, thickness, and defects
  • Identify issues such as:
    • Poor adhesion or uneven coating
    • Surface contamination or missed areas
  • Report and support resolution of non-conforming products
  • Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to improve first-pass yield and reduce rework

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving

  • Apply continuous improvement (CI) and lean manufacturing principles to optimize coating processes
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) to eliminate recurring defects
  • Recommend process improvements to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including handling of powder materials and chemicals
  • Safely operate crane and rigging equipment as required
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators and protective gear
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and environmental standards

General Responsibilities

  • Perform demasking and finishing operations using hand and pneumatic tools
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area aligned with 5S standards
  • Support additional manufacturing tasks as needed to meet production goals
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in industrial, automotive, or manufacturing painting
  • Experience operating material handling equipment (forklift, crane, or manipulators)
  • Must pass any drug screens, background checks, and any pre-employment tests, which will be conducted in accordance with applicable law.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in powder coating or industrial painting
  • Experience in heavy equipment or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience operating coating systems, curing ovens, or finishing equipment

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Microsoft Project.

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule, including Friday - Sunday 6am -6pm 
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs, frequently and/or move up to 35lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to perform continuous, repetitious physical activities.  These activities may involve fine movements or large motions.
  • Must be able to grasp/pinch small items, reach out and up, and turn wrist.
  • Must be capable of keeping pace with current production speed.
  • Must be able to push/pull with reasonable force.
  • Must be able to perform the following requirements of bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in multiple climates including hot/cold temperatures, and dusty environment.
