Stryker Medical, Emergency Care is seeking a Manager, Engineering – R&D to lead a talented engineering team supporting the development of innovative medical technologies. 

This is an opportunity for an engineering leader with a strong engineering background who enjoys developing people while remainingclosely connected to technical product development. The team is composed primarily of software engineers, making software and electrical experience particularly valuable. 

The ideal candidate brings a combination of technical credibility, people leadership, and product development experience and understands how to move complex engineering programs forward in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the quality and rigor required for medical devices. 

What You Will Do 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing R&D engineering team, with a strong focus on software and electrical product development. 
  • Provide technical leadership and direction while empowering engineers to solve complex design and development challenges. 
  • Lead engineering activities across the product development lifecycle, helping teams translate product needs into robust technical solutions and successfully deliver products to market. 
  • Drive execution across complex development programs, including resource planning, staffing, schedules, budgets, technical priorities, and delivery commitments. 
  • Partner closely with Systems, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Program Management, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and maintainprogram momentum. 
  • Guide teams through technical tradeoffs, design decisions, risk management, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. 
  • Build an environment of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong engineering practices. 
  • Recruit, retain, coach, and develop engineering talent while creating meaningful growth and development opportunities for team members. 
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable medical device regulations, quality systems, and design control requirements. 
  • Communicate technical strategies, program risks, resource needs, and recommendations effectively to cross-functional partners and senior leadership. 
  • Balance technical rigor, quality, cost, and speed to help teams execute successfully in a dynamic product-development environment. 
  • Partner with customers, clinicians, and other key stakeholders as appropriate to ensure technical solutions support user and clinical needs. 

What You Will Need 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field 
  • Minimum 8 years experience in engineering or product development 
  • Minimum 2 years direct people management experience 
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering projects 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Strong software or electrical engineering background and experience leading SWEE-based development teams. 
  • Experience developing and launching at least one product, preferably within the medical device or healthcare industry. 
  • Experience leading complex engineering or product-development programs and working across multiple technical and business functions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineers, influence cross-functional teams, resolve complex problems, and drive projects toward completion. 
  • Experience working within a regulated product-development environment and familiarity with medical device design controls. 
  • Experience leading development of complex products incorporating software, electronics, and other multidisciplinary technologies. 
  • Demonstrated success coaching and developing engineers at multiple experience levels. 
  • Experience with engineering resource planning, project budgeting, and prioritization across multiple programs. 
  • Experience working in fast-paced product-development environments where teams must balance schedule, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements.
