Description

GMCO is seeking an experienced Assurance Manager, Construction to join our growing public accounting practice. This role is ideal for a collaborative and client-focused professional with a strong background in construction accounting, construction audits, assurance services, and public accounting.


As an Assurance Manager, you will lead and manage audit, review, and attest engagements for construction contractors and related businesses while serving as a key advisor to clients and engagement teams. You will oversee engagement execution, provide technical guidance on complex construction accounting matters, manage project economics, and foster strong client relationships. The role also offers the opportunity to mentor and develop emerging professionals while contributing to the continued growth of our construction assurance practice.

What you鈥檒l be doing

  • Lead and manage construction audit, review, and assurance engagements throughout the full engagement lifecycle ensuring appropriate stakeholder involvement, timely execution, and compliance with U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and firm methodologies聽
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on complex construction-specific accounting issues, including:聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Percentage-of-completion and cost-to-cost revenue recognition

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and rollforwards

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Job cost accounting

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Backlog reporting

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Claims and change orders

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Contract modifications

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽o Retainage accounting

  • Manage engagement economics with financial and operational discipline by overseeing pricing, budgeting, billing, scope management, staffing, and resource allocation while meeting profitability and delivery expectations.
  • Act as a trusted business advisor by developing and maintaining strong relationships with client executives and key stakeholders through proactive communication regarding engagement status, audit findings, accounting developments, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.聽
  • Help construction industry clients identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, operational performance, internal controls, and overall business effectiveness.聽
  • Collaborate with tax, advisory, outsourced accounting, and consulting teams to deliver integrated client solutions and identify opportunities to expand services.聽
  • Support business development initiatives by strengthening client relationships, identifying opportunities within existing relationships, supporting cross-selling efforts and developing new business opportunities, within the construction sector.聽
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff and senior associates through coaching, performance feedback, training, engagement supervision, and career development planning.聽
  • Support recruiting and retention efforts by helping attract, develop, and retain top talent while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.聽

Requirements

What makes you a fit

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.聽
  • Experience: 5+ years of recent public accounting experience in assurance, audit, or attest services with progressive responsibility and engagement leadership experience.聽
  • License: Active CPA license required.聽
  • Construction Expertise: experience serving construction contractors and construction industry clients, including advanced knowledge of:聽

  • Leadership: Demonstrated success supervising, mentoring and developing staff and senior associates.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex accounting and audit matters in a clear, practical, and client-focused manner.聽
  • Technology: Proficiency with audit technology, data analytics tools, and construction financial management systems; adaptable to emerging technologies and process improvements.聽
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and client service in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation offered for this position will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to: years of relevant experience, unique or specialized skill sets, education, licensure, internal equity, and location. The estimated salary range for this position is $108,000-$140,000.聽
