Intermountain Electronics (IE) manufactures custom-engineered Process, Electrical Control, and Power Distribution turnkey solutions used by critical industries throughout North America. We support customers in the Data Center, Industrial, Power/Utility, Oil & Gas, and Mining markets.

Our manufacturing work ranges from large, individually engineered Power Distribution, Control, and Process systems to standard electronic and electro-mechanical components.

IE is currently seeking a full-time Quality Inspector for our Day Shift at our Price, Utah facility. This position reports directly to the Quality Inspection Supervisor & Administrator.

About This Position

The Quality Inspector evaluates products at multiple stages of manufacturing, including work in progress and completed equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate quality records are maintained to satisfy both IE and customer documentation requirements.

You'll also investigate NCRs and customer escapes, perform root cause analysis, assist with implementing necessary corrective actions, and help identify opportunities to strengthen manufacturing and quality processes.

Additional responsibilities may include supporting process development, updating documentation, participating in quality audits, and completing other assigned duties.

Electrical Inspection & Product Quality

• Perform inspections and support electrical reviews across a broad range of IE equipment and products, including MCC buildings, E-houses, power centers, LACT units, pump stations, rebuilt equipment, and other manufactured products.
• Interpret technical assembly prints when reviewing the wiring and installation of electrical components, switchgear, electrical switches, and electronic instruments and devices.
• Inspect equipment incorporating programmable process controllers (PLCs), data loggers, relays, breakers, and other electronic instrumentation used in the manufacture and repair of electrical power stations and equipment.
• Evaluate completed work to determine whether established quality and reliability standards have been satisfied.
• Verify that equipment has been properly calibrated and complies with applicable electrical codes and design specifications.
• Conduct in-process inspections throughout production using visual inspection and measurement testing.
• Perform final inspections of completed products to verify all required operations meet IE and customer specifications.

NEC Compliance & Technical Guidance

• Apply the latest NEC code requirements at an advanced level when evaluating IE equipment and projects.
• Verify NEC compliance throughout the entire project build.
• Provide team members with instruction, explanations, and guidance regarding NEC requirements.
• Communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with assemblers, peers, engineers, supervisors, and suppliers as necessary.

Quality Concerns, NCRs & Corrective Actions

• Collect and review process turnbacks and lead efforts to analyze root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Lead investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions associated with NCR-related quality issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis involving company escapes, including quality concerns that have reached the end user.
• Partner with the Quality team to identify opportunities for manufacturing process improvement.
• Communicate quality process and procedure changes to the Manufacturing Manager and team leads.
• Assist with implementing corrective actions resulting from process turnbacks, NCRs, escapes, and other identified quality concerns.

Quality Systems & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure all necessary documentation is completed.
• Support the QMS team, engineers, manufacturing supervisors, leads, and employees with workmanship expectations, quality standards, manufacturing processes, and procedures.
• Train new employees on quality processes and inspection procedures.
• Support IE's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, including the Non-Conforming Material Program.
• Perform additional operational inspections involving fabrication, mechanical assembly, and paint when required.
• Support process development, documentation updates, and quality audits as necessary.

Initiative & Continuous Improvement

• Provide additional support to Engineering or Operations when needed.
• Encourage continuous improvement by setting a positive example and positively motivating others.

Requirements

What You'll Need to Succeed

Education & Relevant Experience

Candidates must meet the following minimum education and experience requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Three years of relevant industrial or commercial electrical experience.
• Two years of quality control and/or inspection experience.

Electrical & Quality Knowledge

This role requires a strong electrical background and the ability to apply technical knowledge during the inspection process. Candidates must have:

• Practical knowledge of three-phase power systems, motor controls, drives, low-voltage controls, and PLCs.
• Experience working with electrical testing and measurement equipment, including multimeters, Volt-Ohm meters, Hi-Pot testers, and calipers.
• Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and requirements, including NEC and MSHA.
• Ability to perform work safely and comply with applicable electrical safety procedures, including OSHA and MSHA requirements.
• Ability to accurately read, interpret, understand, and follow electrical prints and diagrams.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Teamwork, Customer Service & Computer Skills

In addition to technical expertise, candidates must be able to:

• Work effectively and professionally with employees throughout all levels of the company.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers.
• Perform general computer functions using email, internet applications, data-entry programs, and Microsoft Excel.

Safe Use of Tools & Equipment

The Quality Inspector must be capable of safely using the tools and material-handling equipment required for assigned work. This may include:

• Various hand tools
• Overhead cranes
• Forklifts
• Hoists
• Other applicable tools and equipment

Physical Capabilities

Employees must be able to meet the physical demands associated with this position, including:

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Perform some lifting and continual bending while standing and working on a concrete floor.
• Frequently walk and stand.
• Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or feel objects.
• Regularly reach with hands and arms.
• Climb or balance as necessary to complete assigned work.
• Talk and hear as required to safely and effectively perform job responsibilities.
• Possess the visual abilities required for the position, including close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Schedule & Availability

Employees must be able to work a 40-hour work week and additional hours when required.
