09/09Provo City Public Works is seeking seasonal summer laborers to provide cleaning and maintenance work for the Storm Water Division. Qualified, civic-minded individuals are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $18.00 hourly depending upon skill level and experience. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

What will I do?

  • Clean ditches.

  • Lay pipe.

  • Respond to storm flooding.

  • Clean river and flood control channels.

  • Pour and finish concrete.

  • Clean storm drain boxes and inlets.

  • Perform minor maintenance on pumps and pump stations.

  • Spray and burn ditch banks.

  • Perform other duties relating to irrigation maintenance.

  • May be required to operate a backhoe, boom truck, jet machine, and weed burner.

  • Assist other crew members as needed/directed and perform other related work as required.

What requirements do I need to apply?

  • Any training or experience which would demonstrate an ability to perform the work.

  • Physical strength and agility.

  • Ability to follow directions and communicate with the public in a courteous manner.

  • A knowledge of the safe use of hand tools and equipment required by the position.

  • Valid, lawful driver's license.

What are the hours and duration?

8 - 10 hours per day, Monday - Thursday. Specific schedule to be discussed during interviews. This position will begin as soon as possible and run through approximately Nov 30, 2025.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires burning weeds, bending, carrying, occasional heavy lifting, loading, digging holes, and other excavations; and exposure to adverse weather conditions, working in the river, high noise levels, and pesticides.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on September 10, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
