Job Summary

The Senior Accountant supports the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting for DRS Daylight Solutions. This role performs complex accounting activities, prepares and analyzes financial data, manages key reconciliations and close processes, and supports compliance with internal controls, government-contracting requirements, and audit activities.


The successful candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently across a broad range of accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets, cash, billing, tax reporting, and financial forecasting. This position also serves as a resource to less experienced team members and helps identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and controls.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts; investigate variances and provide clear, well-supported explanations of account activity.
  • Process daily cash receipts and maintain accurate banking and cash-management records.
  • Review accounts receivable aging, coordinate customer collection follow-up, and support cash-collection activities.
  • Prepare and submit receiving reports and invoices in iRPT for customer deliveries.
  • Prepare cost-plus billings and verify that required approvals and supporting documentation are complete before submission.
  • Perform daily inventory reconciliations and prepare month-end inventory reporting.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including asset additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
  • Prepare sales and use tax analyses, monthly prepayments, and quarterly tax filings.
  • Support preparation of tax provisions and filings, including 1099 reporting, property tax, income tax, fixed assets, prepaids, and IRAD-related activities.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses using FCC/Essbase.
  • Participate in invoicing and cash forecasting activities.
  • Support internal and external audit engagements, including DCMA reviews, by preparing schedules, responding to requests, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Provide cross-functional accounting support and backup coverage for payroll, sales order processing, and invoicing activities.
  • Recommend and help implement improvements to accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
  • Lead assigned tasks or project workstreams and provide guidance to less-experienced accounting staff, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

The Right Candidate Will Bring

  • CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
  • Experience supporting government-contract accounting, cost-plus billing, DCMA audits, or related compliance requirements.
  • Experience with FCC/Essbase or comparable financial reporting and consolidation systems.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, fixed assets, sales and use tax, and cash forecasting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive, directly related accounting experience; experience in a manufacturing environment or experience in a government-contracting or defense environment is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and audit support.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including use of complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting results and variances to business partners and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with finance, operations, program teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
     

The salary range for this position is $83,527 - $119,480/Year. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
