Job Title: Sign Fabrication & Graphics Technician

Reports To: Equipment Service & Fabrication Manager – Carver Equipment Division

Position Summary: Skilled technician responsible for designing, producing, fabricating, and installing signs, decals, equipment graphics, and other visual identification materials. Position also supports fabrication operations by creating and preparing digital designs, layouts, and cut files for the plasma table.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design signs, decals, equipment lettering, logos, safety markings, and other graphic materials using approved design software.
  • Operate vinyl cutters, printers, laminators, and related sign-production equipment.
  • Prepare, cut, weed, mask, and apply vinyl graphics and lettering.
  • Fabricate signs using aluminum, steel, plastics, and other appropriate materials.
  • Install signs, decals, lettering, and graphics on vehicles, equipment, buildings, and other company assets.
  • Measure vehicles, equipment, structures, and components to ensure proper sizing, layout, and fit of graphics and signage.
  • Create and modify digital artwork, logos, templates, and production files.
  • Convert sketches, drawings, measurements, and existing parts into digital designs for fabrication.
  • Create and prepare DXF or other compatible cut files for the plasma table.
  • Assist with tracing, nesting, layout, and design of parts to maximize material utilization and improve plasma table efficiency.
  • Work with fabrication personnel to verify dimensions, material requirements, and design specifications before cutting parts.
  • Maintain organized electronic files for signs, decals, templates, plasma designs, and frequently produced parts.
  • Maintain sign-making equipment, tools, work areas, and inventory of vinyl, sign materials, and related supplies.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, appearance, adhesion, dimensions, and overall quality.
  • Coordinate with company departments to develop signage, decals, equipment identification, safety markings, and fabrication designs as needed.
  • Follow all company safety requirements when operating cutting equipment, fabrication tools, ladders, lifts, and installation equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and equipment instruction as assigned.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with all Carver Companies’ business units to meet company needs.

Qualifications:

Experience: 2–5 years of experience in sign fabrication, graphic production, vinyl installation, CAD/design, fabrication, or a related field preferred.

Industry Specific Certifications and Skills

  • OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with graphic design, sign-making, vinyl cutting, and production software.
  • Ability to create and modify vector artwork and production-ready files.
  • Experience with CAD, DXF files, plasma table design software, or similar fabrication software preferred.
  • Ability to read measurements, drawings, sketches, and basic fabrication prints.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, layout, and visual quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Physical & Work Conditions

  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and overhead work; heat/noise; and cold weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and handle sign materials, tools, and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Work may be performed in office, shop, fabrication, outdoor, and active jobsite environments.
  • Overtime, early starts, or Saturday work may be required for critical projects or operational needs.
