Position Summary: 

The Packaging Plant Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of equipment used to process, package, and prepare salt products for shipment. This hands-on role supports production activities while ensuring quality standards, operational efficiency, and safety compliance are consistently met. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor packaging line equipment, including conveyors, weighing systems, and automated machinery.
  • Ensure products are accurately filled, sealed, labeled, and palletized in accordance with established specifications.
  • Perform routine quality control checks to verify product weight, packaging integrity, and labeling accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
  • Assist with loading and unloading raw materials and finished goods as needed.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or production issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to support continuous operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn and operate new equipment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
  • Experience operating automated packaging or bagging equipment (e.g., Hamer systems).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and twist for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely work on ladders or elevated platforms as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a physically active production environment.
  • Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, salt, and varying temperatures.
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with frequent interaction among production staff.
  • Regular overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on operational needs.
