Overview

The Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab leverages the power of data, our cloud technology, data science talent, and the Microsoft brand to catalyze and inspire others to partner in solving the world’s greatest challenges. Over the past four years, AI for Good Lab has become a data and AI driven solution creator, storyteller and trusted advisor working closely with leaders across Microsoft, academia, NGOs, and all levels of government. Our mission is to be one of the top applied research and data visualization labs driving positive change in the world, inspiring and serving as a blueprint for others. 

Software Engineers have a fantastic opportunity to join the AI for Good Lab. In this role, you will work alongside leading Data Scientists, Engineers, and researchers to develop innovative solutions with real-world impact. Reporting to the Director of Data Architecture, you will partner with teams across Microsoft to design and deliver world-class data platforms, products, and services that advance Microsoft's AI for Good mission.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement cloud architectures that support our data science and experimentation projects. 

  • Design and develop cloud-based solution for applied AI scenarios 

  • Independently use appropriate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and practices across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in a disciplined manner. 

  • Provide thought leadership for technical architecture design, development, and deployment to support customer/partners data science scenarios. Identify technical blockers to accelerate architecture implementations and route non-technical issues for removal by the appropriate party. 

  • Share ideas, insight, and technical input using a working knowledge of Azure architectures and other relevant products. 

  • Participate in security peer reviews to identify and mitigate risks, including code reviews and threat modeling. 

  • Support team functions by resolving service issues, providing technical guidance and assistance to users, conducting investigations, and creating documentation. 

  • Represent our capabilities and product offerings to internal and external leadership audiences, both technical and non-technical. Help advance the research agenda for AI For Good initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications  

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Azure AI services, and/or TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
  • Experienced agile practitioner with experience in Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and/or REST. 
  • "Hands on" Experience creating Proof of Concepts, Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) for customers ​that lead to production deployments.  


Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
