About this job 

CarMax’s Financial Controls and Compliance function is responsible formaintaining the Company’s Sarbanes Oxley compliance program and supporting other accounting related compliance requirementsThe Senior Analyst of Financial Controls and Compliance will performthe daily operations required for CarMax tomaintain SOX compliance while serving as a subject matter expert to determineSOX impact of business-driven initiatives. This will necessitate obtaining a broad understanding of the company’s functions and business segments and requirefoundational knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley best practicesCommunication, collaboration and analysis and decision-making skills will be instrumental in the success of this role.  

 

What you will doEssential Responsibilities 

  • Maintain the Company’s suite of key and non-key SOX controls and flowcharts within the Workiva system, including the execution of periodic reviews with control owners.   

  • Support the ongoing scoping, materiality, and risk assessment related to the company’s internal control over financial reporting. 

  • Work closely with the company’s internal and external auditors to support the successful completion of SOX control testing procedures. 

  • Evaluate the root cause and financial statement impact of SOX control deficiencies, partnering with the business to develop and track execution of a management remediation plan.  

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to assist the business in determining the SOX impact of business-driven initiatives and/or proposed process improvements.  

  • Coordinate and monitor completion of the quarterly SOX section 302/906 certifications with Senior Management 

  • Obtain annual SOC 1 internal control reports from the relevant service providers and assess implication on the company’s internal controls and ability to rely on third-party information. 

 

Purpose of the role 

This position will be responsible forpartnering heavily with the business to assist in the design, operation and maintenance of the Company’s SOX controlsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  This includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships throughout the organization, and collaborate with other departments and teams. 

  • Ability to apply business and technical knowledge to implement changes and enhance processes, including the ability to apply that knowledge to solve problems at the root cause  

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines within project parameters. 

  • Ability to provide “win-win” solutions while resolving customer service issues in a positive and professional manner. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, tailoring message to the audience. 

 

Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required, with a concentration in Accounting preferred 

  • CPA, CIA or equivalent certificationpreferred 

  • Four or more years of general accounting experience required; Public accounting experience preferred 

  • Previous experience with US GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley, PCAOB requirements, and COSO Framework required 

  • Working knowledge and experience with Information Technology General Controls (ITGC) preferred 

  • Experience with process improvementand change management preferred 

  • Ability to communicate in a clear and open manner through verbal, written, and non-verbal methods 

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel and Word, PowerPoint, Visio) 

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

The annual salary for this position is:

$83,000.00 - $124,500.00

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
