Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Rockville MD - Rockville, MD 20850Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High School / GEDSalary Range: $20.00 - $23.00 HourlyTravel Percentage: NoneJob Category: BiotechTITLE / CLASSIFICATION:  Husbandry Technician I, Vivarium Operations    REPORTING LOCATION:  Rockville, MD                                                 REPORTS TO:  Supervisor Vivarium Ops   SCHEDULE: Mon - Fri 5am or 6am start to 1:30 or 2:30 pm.  Rotational weekends - 4 hours for Sat and 4 hours for Sunday, 1 weekend a month.   PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:  Support in vivo oncology research studies in mice as a member of the Vivarium Operations Husbandry Team.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform daily cage checks and weekly cage changes. Monitor animal health and report animal health concerns. Perform general sanitation on equipment, rooms, and facilities. Transport materials, supplies, and waste. Assist with surgical staple removal and study randomization. Record data within room logs and the laboratory information management system. Read, understand, and adhere to study protocols. Perform general preparation and organizational activities, including supply organization and stocking, and laboratory organization. Work weekends and holidays on rotating basis. PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS:  300 cage checks/hour; 80 cage changes/hour; 90 staple removals/hour.  To be attained within 3 months of training completion.      QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: TEAM PLAYER.  Actively and eagerly support leadership and colleagues. PLUS:  AALAS ALAT certification.  PREFERRED:  1 year of related experience in a Contract Research Organization or similar research setting    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Requires manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and repetitive motion. Requires sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the work shift consistent with a typical research laboratory environment and vivarium. Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds. Routine exposure to odors and chemicals. Routine exposure to sharps.
