JOB SUMMARY

The Food Production Supervisor oversees the full scope and staffing operations of Food and BRC Production responsibilities including the live room, evisceration, sanitation, packaging, shipping, box room and ground areas. The role will observe best practices for managing production and staffing operations across cross-functional departments in compliance with Company policy and management guidance. The Food Production Supervisor implements effective and efficient results associated with the production of all saleable products, including food and pet food items, and small fryer carcasses, to meet customer specifications and production goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a safety champion by creating a safety huddle topic each week and presenting it to the group every morning.
  • Provide required training to employees on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Attend sales meetings to discuss production needs and goals.
  • Creates production schedules, with safety and rotation in mind, to complete daily responsibilities.
  • Cross-train current employees on all roles in order to fill skill/knowledge gaps, increase safety awareness, and increase employee skills across the plant.
  • Ensure that employees have all the required equipment by anticipating equipment needs and ordering new equipment in a timely manner.
  • Ensure effective and efficient results associated with the production of all saleable products, including food items, pet food items, and small fryer carcasses,
  • Work alongside other department managers and maintenance to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Coach and mentor production lead to provide avenues for growth into a leadership role.
  • Develop an understanding of the Company's organizational structure and operating procedures and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Contribute toward the research and development of Company products.
  • Assist employees with tasks, as needed, to ensure efficient and effective operation and a smooth production flow.
  • Aid employees with accurately recording inventory data and sharing inventory levels with the Sales team.
  • Coordinate product recalls and audits including GMP, FACTA, and EAGLE as required.
  • Report on unsafe working conditions and work with maintenance on both temporary and permanent safety solutions.
  • Comply with all GMP, SOP, SSOP, and HACCP procedures in an effort to train employees in compliance.
  • Understand and promote the Quality System as a part of the Company's overall goal toward continual improvement through strict adherence to company policies and procedures, and actively support and uphold the principles and values of the Company.
  • Record data as necessary for research purposes.
  • Review and approve employee timecards adhering to company payroll deadlines.
  • Handle difficult situations and deliver complicated messages to employees for their understanding and compliance.
  • Comply with Pel-Freez, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies and procedures, food safety standards, general safety, animal welfare, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • A minimum of two years of work and safety experience within the production industry is required.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role is preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to be covered under the Company's automobile insurance is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures and industry regulations and guidelines required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
  • Excellent computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office and internal applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills necessary for handling all sectors of the business.
  • A focused individual capable of repeatedly exerting physical strength to safely lift and transport heavy materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and efficiently operate various types of hand and power tools, machinery, knives and saws, and other equipment to complete work tasks.
  • The ability to maintain great attention to detail and meet established quality standards while managing tasks of completing priorities.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of employees.
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and adjust to changing situations.
  • The ability to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures, and all applicable state and federal laws.
  • The ability to become certified in handling the heavy equipment necessary for plant operations.
  • The ability to train and lead employees to become successful in their roles.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS

The Food Production Supervisor will supervise food production personnel. The role will also interact with co-workers and management on a daily basis.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

The role will be around loud noises, hot machines, and extreme odors. Sometimes the position will have to work in wet or humid places and near things that move automatically. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and works near moving mechanical parts. The position might have to work high up or around things that can cause shock or cause a lot of vibration. The hours the position works might change each week, especially when things are busy. This position is full-time and work hours may vary depending on operational activities and required duties.
