Estimating Manager


Saber Power Services, a portfolio company of Greenbelt Capital Partners, is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm providing end-to-end solutions across utility, renewables and battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other markets.  Based in Houston, Texas, Saber Power offers deep subject matter expertise and uses an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Saber serves clients locally, nationally, and abroad.

 

Position Summary: 

The Estimating Manager leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for construction projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements.  The Estimating Manager establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements.  The Estimating Manager incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations.  Develops, in conjunction with other proposal process stakeholders, a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimates and communicating with executive leadership.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the estimating function and establish best practices for preparing cost estimates based on project scope, plans, specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized estimating procedures, tools, templates, and methodologies to ensure consistency and accuracy across all estimates.
  • Establish and manage processes for analyzing project requirements, drawings, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and service needs.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed cost estimates that include itemized expenses, labor hours, material quantities, equipment costs, and potential cost risks or variations.
  • Incorporate benchmark data, historical pricing, market trends, and productivity data into estimates to improve accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with proposal managers, project managers, operations, procurement, and other stakeholders to support bid strategies and proposal development.
  • Develop, in conjunction with proposal process stakeholders, an effective workflow and system for scheduling, prioritizing, and processing estimates.
  • Ensure clear and timely communication of estimate assumptions, risks, and results to executive leadership and other decision-makers.
  • Review and validate estimates prior to submission, ensuring compliance with internal standards and client requirements.
  • Support post-bid reviews and project handoff by providing estimating insights, assumptions, and documentation to project teams.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes based on lessons learned and project performance feedback.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:

  • Finance, Project, or Construction Management degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant estimating experience required.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience required.
  • Actual field experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and quality control software.
