Position Summary

Are you an experienced nursing leader looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact? Join our team as a Director of Nursing (DON) and lead our nursing department in providing exceptional, resident-centered care.

The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department while ensuring residents receive the highest practicable level of well-being. This position provides clinical leadership, develops and supports nursing staff, promotes quality outcomes, and ensures compliance with professional, state, and federal standards.

The DON serves as a key member of the facility leadership team and partners with the Administrator and interdisciplinary team to create a culture of quality, accountability, teamwork, and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing department.
  • Ensure nursing practices comply with professional standards and state and federal regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Assess staffing needs and ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling based on resident needs and acuity.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and support to ADONs, Nursing Supervisors, Charge Nurses, and CNAs.
  • Participate in admissions, resident assessments, care planning, and interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Monitor nursing documentation and clinical records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Lead infection prevention and control initiatives.
  • Support quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Coordinate nursing education and staff development programs.
  • Promote survey readiness and assist with developing and implementing corrective action plans when needed.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and resident-centered care.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support overall facility goals.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Michigan.
  • Previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of geriatric nursing practices and skilled nursing regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate nursing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Advanced education, training, or certification in nursing leadership or management.
  • Experience with survey preparation, infection prevention, and quality improvement programs.
