Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Venous Access RN, you are a vital clinical expert responsible for the specialized insertion, maintenance, and troubleshooting of vascular access devices. You serve as the primary resource for the nursing staff, ensuring that all central line procedures align with hospital policies and the highest standards of safety. By integrating ultrasound technology with expert clinical judgment, you provide essential support to "difficult stick" patients and those requiring long-term IV therapy, all while upholding the mission, core values, and strategic goals of the Community Hospital of San Bernardino.

 

Every day, you will will utilize ultrasound guidance to perform specialized line insertions while serving as the primary clinical resource for staff regarding the maintenance and troubleshooting of vascular access devices. In this role, you will also monitor documentation standards and coordinate care to ensure every patient receives safe, evidence-based, and high-quality vascular support.

 

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly skilled clinical expert who combines technical proficiency in vascular access with strong communication, leadership, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

  • Demonstrate clinical expertise: Possess a deep understanding of vascular anatomy and be proficient in ultrasound-guided line insertion, catheter maintenance, and device removal.
  • Educate and empower: Maintain a passion for teaching, providing ongoing instruction to staff and patients on vein preservation techniques and long-term device maintenance.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills: Offer consistent, constructive feedback to colleagues and effectively communicate with leadership regarding department performance and patient needs.
  • Exercise proactive problem-solving: Identify and resolve clinical or procedural issues by initiating direct interactions with the care team and escalating concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Commit to quality improvement: Actively participate in hospital-wide strategic plans, quality improvement initiatives, and processes that align with our institutional mission and core values.
  • Maintain adaptability: Remain ready to reassess patient needs in real-time, troubleshooting complex line issues and providing specialized support to patients with difficult vascular access requirements.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Graduate of accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • Minimum five (5) years experience as an acute care RN
  • Registered Nurse: CA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and
