Your next role as a Miracle Maker
Maravai LifeSciences is seeking a #MiracleMaker to join our Accounting team as an Manager, Accounting. The Manager, Accounting will serve as a key member of the accounting and finance team, responsible for leading the GL function as well as a timely and accurate monthly and quarterly close process. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the position will own accounting operations areas including accruals, prepaids, cash, intercompany, and employee compensation, and will partner cross-functionally with FP&A, tax, treasury, payroll, and operations. This position will also oversee the equity administration and accounting, working with the company’s transfer agent and equity platforms. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong leadership, process improvement, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
How you will make an impact:
General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Lead and manage the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all general ledger activities.
- Own and review journal entries across key areas including accruals and prepaids.
- Oversee cash accounting, bank reconciliations, and intercompany accounting, including elimination entries and intercompany settlement.
- Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Maintain and enforce close calendar, coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to meet reporting deadlines.
- Partner with FP&A to support variance analysis and provide commentary on significant GL fluctuations.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and review financial statement disclosures and support the preparation of internal financial reporting packages.
- Support SEC reporting (10-Q, 10-K), including preparation or review of earnings per share calculation, footnotes and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, including review and application of relevant accounting standards to transactions and estimates.
- Maintain and strengthen SOX-compliant internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation and testing support.
- Coordinate with external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, including timely preparation of PBC schedules and audit support packages.
Equity Accounting, Reporting, and Administration
- Own equity plan administration, including oversight of external Certified Equity Professional. This includes aministration of RSU and stock option plans, including grant processing, vesting, exercises, as well as ESPP transactions.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures related to equity compensation.
- Manage and approve payroll-related equity and stock transactions, including tax updates and reconciliations.
- Maintain equity system data integrity (Fidelity).
- Serve as the primary liaison with the transfer agent and brokerage partner to ensure accuracy of share issuances, plan reserves, and reporting.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performance team culture focused on accuracy, accountability, and growth.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Support special projects, system implementations, and ad-hoc financial analyses.
- Perform other functions and duties as required
The skills and experience that you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with at least 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- CPA (active or in process) is required.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including equity accounting (ASC 718).
- Demonstrated experience in a public company environment, including SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or comparable); advanced Excel skills required. Experience with automation or close management tools is a plus.
- Experience with equity administration platforms (Certent/Equity Edge, Fidelity, or comparable) preferred.
- Experience supporting SEC reporting (10-Q, 10-K) and partnering with external auditors preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical rigor, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across functions and levels, including senior leadership.
- High degree of integrity and sound judgment; ability to handle sensitive financial data with discretion and professionalism.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $125,000 - $145,000. In addition, highly competitive long-term incentives in the form of company equity, bonus participation and company sponsored benefits are provided as part of the total compensation package. The salary offer will depend on multiple factors which may include the successful candidate's skills, experience and other qualifications, as well as the location of the role.
