La Jolla Country Day School is seeking enthusiastic, caring, and dependable Group Leaders to join our Lower School and Middle School After-School and Extended Day Program. The program provides a safe, healthy, and engaging balance of creative, educational, and recreational activities for students after the school day. The program operates on School days Monday through Friday, and Faculty work days. Typical hours are 2:30 - 5:30 pm.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, builds positive relationships with students, and brings energy, patience, good humor, and a strong sense of responsibility to an after-school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in gaining experience working with children in a supportive school community.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervision & Safety
    • Actively supervise students and maintain continuous visual awareness, including walking playground perimeters
    • Manage the playground and student behavior in accordance with school policies while promoting safety and healthy choices
    • Follow all school safety, security, and emergency procedures
    • Remain mobile while on duty
  • Program Operations
    • Take accurate attendance using the childcare app and physical attendance sheet
    • Coordinate with outside vendors providing enrichment programs
  • Student Relationships & Communication
    • Build positive relationships with students and learn and use their names
    • Provide guidance and encouragement while supporting positive behavior
    • Maintain open communication with parents/guardians, School staff, and educators

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and an understanding of child development
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to positively manage student behavior and maintain a safe, respectful environment
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using technology for attendance and communication
  • Reliable transportation

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Part-time, hourly, in-person role on the La Jolla Country Day School campus
  • Work takes place in classrooms, outdoor areas, and other campus spaces
  • Requires active supervision, including standing, walking, and moving throughout campus
  • Ability to participate in and supervise recreational and physical activities
  • Ability to respond promptly to student needs and emergency situations

Pay Range

$18.75–$25 per hour
