Our Security Guard, also known as our Health Safety Ambassador (HSA) at UCSF Health, plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and secure environment across all UCSF Medical Center facilities. As a frontline representative of the Security Services team, the HSA supports the protection of patients, staff, visitors, and physical assets through proactive patrols, access control, safety surveillance, and timely incident response.

This position includes specific POST responsibilities, customer-focused engagement, and participation in events or special assignments that require professional security presence and public interaction. The role is also responsible for physically intervening in escalated situations and applying approved physical restraint techniques in accordance with hospital and UCPD policies and safety protocols.

Note: The work location will be a various sites within San Francisco.  We are offering a new hire Sign-on Bonus of $500, payable after 30 days of continuous employment.   All external new hires who have not worked for a UC in the last 12 months are eligible. The bonus is payable after 30 days of continuous employment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years of experience in one or more of these areas: customer service, security, public safety, or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of standard security protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations, including those with physical or mental health needs.
  • Basic computer skills for incident reporting include utilizing email and access control systems.
  • Prevention/De-escalation training to be completed within six months of hire.
  • Valid California Guard Card issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. 
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work various shifts and days of the week onsite in San Francisco.



 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field
  • Two or more years of experience in a healthcare or institutional security environment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
