About the Role
The Operator Technician is a technical individual contributor responsible for setting up, programming, running, and maintaining complex production equipment and machine tools. This role supports the production of high-quality products by operating equipment to procedure, capturing required production data, troubleshooting issues, and partnering with team members to improve processes and equipment performance.
What You’ll Do
- Set up, program, and run complex equipment and machine tools used in production.
- Perform simple and complex maintenance on production and support machines.
- Run and maintain test equipment according to established procedures.
- Review and complete required production data capture and documentation.
- Review processes and implement improvements in alignment with change procedures.
- Serve as a resource to others in resolving complex production, process, equipment, and product issues.
- Contribute to structured problem-solving activities and technical troubleshooting.
- Use the Watlow Business System to reduce waste, improve business processes, and achieve results.
- May orient, train, assign, and review the work of other team members.
Collaboration & Business Partnership
- Collaborate with Maintenance on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
- Partner with New Product Development (NPD) teams to support designs and prototypes for manufacturing.
- Work with engineers to implement change improvements and transfer knowledge across situations and work areas.
- Demonstrate strong listening, communication, approachability, and interpersonal skills while building credibility with others.
What You’ll Bring
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two-year degree, technical certificate, or 3-5 years of related experience preferred.
- Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
- Ability to understand processes, apply tools and techniques across multiple work areas, and train others on specific skills.
- Sound judgment to know when to resolve issues independently and when to refer issues to others.
- Leadership training preferred.
- Completion of Enriching Lives Workshop preferred or as required by Watlow.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent walking, lifting under 20 pounds, grasping, manipulating, following written instructions, and following set procedures or sequences.
- Constant standing/stationary positioning, overall vision requirements, and hand positioning/dexterity.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, sitting, operating standard office equipment, computer use, decision-making, detailed analysis, and exposure to environmental conditions such as noise, dust, fumes, indoor/outdoor temperature conditions, and weather.
- Occasional intrastate, interstate, and international travel may be required.
- Ability to work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week as business needs require.
