About Our Family
We are a busy, high-energy San Mateo family of five with three young children (ages 6, 4, and 1 month). Both parents work in demanding executive roles — one from home, one commuting to the office with frequent travel. We value presence, structure, and a well-run home that allows us to be fully engaged during the times that matter most: time together as a family.
We are active, social, and intentional about protecting our time. Weekends are spent outdoors, at the farmers market, cheering on our kids at sports, and cooking together. We are affectionate and hands-on, with a home that is a hum of activity and plenty of young energy. Our kids know what to expect, and we care about creating a household where everyone feels cared for, grounded, and able to enjoy the busiest parts of the day together. We also have a lovable, 70-lb dog who is a part of the family.
We are looking for someone who can step in as a true household partner, bringing both strong household management skills and a warm, steady presence with young children. This is a full-time house manager/nanny hybrid role with a split schedule, blending home operations with daily childcare, calendaring, and family support. You’ll be an essential part of our routine, particularly in the mornings and afternoons, helping the kids move through school routines, transportation, and activities while also managing household tasks in the quieter hours. A meaningful portion of this role — approximately 25–50% — will involve driving children to and from school, activities, appointments, and errands, so comfort managing logistics and staying ahead of the family calendar is important. Flexibility is key, especially in adapting to changing family needs and unpredictable work travel schedules. The right person will anticipate needs, take initiative, and help the household run smoothly while genuinely enjoying time with our young children.
Who You Are:
You bring calm, structure, and forward motion to a busy household, and you wear multiple hats as a manager/nanny hybrid. You thrive being around young children and are comfortable jumping into the rhythm of family life — school drop-offs and pickups, backpacks, errands, meal prep, calendaring, and the many small details that keep the day moving.
You are proactive and observant, noticing what needs attention before it becomes a problem. You can reset a kitchen, restock the pantry, coordinate with vendors, manage returns, maintain the family calendar, and help the family stay ahead of busy weeks. You do not need constant direction; you can confidently take ownership of recurring household systems while communicating clearly about what is happening and what needs a decision.
This role is best suited for someone who is warm, steady, and practical — someone who can be kind and engaging with young children while also holding routines and boundaries. You are comfortable in a home with a newborn, preschool/elementary-age kids, and a lot of movement, and you understand that the goal is to help the parents be more present during the moments that matter most.
Trustworthiness, discretion, and reliability are essential. The right person will take pride in creating a well-run home, will bring a grounded “how can I help?” mindset, and will enjoy being a long-term support to a family that values presence, organization, and follow-through.
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, particularly for occasional coordination with household vendors, but it is not required.
Qualities We’re Looking For:
- Hybrid Household & Childcare Support: Brings prior professional childcare experience with young children and is comfortable in a blended role that includes both household management and daily family support.
- Comfort With Pets & Active Homes: Comfortable with a large, high-energy dog and the natural pace of a busy family household.
- Household Management Experience: Background in household management, family assistance, personal/executive assistance, or a similar role supporting a busy household or principal.
- Proactive Ownership: Able to anticipate needs, create systems, follow through independently, and keep household details moving without frequent reminders.
- Calendar & Logistics Management: Strong at managing schedules, transportation, appointments, activities, and changing family logistics with accuracy and follow-through.
- Clear Communication: Comfortable giving updates, flagging needs, coordinating schedules, and working alongside parents and outside vendors with professionalism and discretion.
- Adaptable Problem Solver: Flexible and solutions-oriented as the family settles into new routines, able to adjust priorities thoughtfully while maintaining clear communication and steady follow-through.
- Organization & Systems Thinking: Strong at managing supplies, calendars, errands, routines, and projects so the household feels prepared and well supported.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using digital tools such as Google Calendar, Amazon, Instacart, and shared lists to manage schedules, orders, and household systems.
