About the Opportunity

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a TSPLOST Utility Coordinator to join our Public Works team and play a key role in the successful delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the City.

This position serves as a central point of contact for utility coordination and relocation activities, working closely with City Project Managers, external design consultants, construction contractors, and utility providers. The TSPLOST Utility Coordinator will help ensure utility relocations are properly coordinated, documented, permitted, and completed on schedule from project design through construction.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate and track utility relocation activities for assigned projects, including submissions, agreements, schedules, and permitting.
  • Monitor utility relocation progress and identify potential issues that could affect project schedules.
  • Prepare weekly project status reports and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate monthly utility meetings with external utility providers in partnership with the Field Services Utility Manager.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external utility representatives and work collaboratively to resolve utility-related issues.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with utility providers, Project Managers, design consultants, construction contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings, utility coordination meetings, and project site visits as needed.
  • Maintain accurate utility records, project documentation, and utility provider contact information.
  • Assist with developing and improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for utility coordination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the transportation field relating to utilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license required.
  • Must be comfortable operating a City-owned vehicle.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Knowledge of GDOT utility coordination procedures.
  • Knowledge of GUPS permitting when a state route is involved or crossed.
  • Knowledge of the GDOT Utility Accommodations Manual (UAM).
  • Familiarity with external utility provider processes and franchise agreements.
  • Experience working with utility operations, municipal government, design, and/or construction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with coworkers, City officials, consultants, contractors, and external utility representatives.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications used to create spreadsheets, correspondence, presentations, reports, and databases.
  • Strong spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills.
