Lead Managing Dental Assistant  

Reports to: Dentist / Operations Leader 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary 

The Lead Managing Dental Assistant has the skills, responsibilities, tasks and expectations to assist/support the dentist in delivering exceptional care to all patients under the guidance and support of the Dentist and Operations Leader.  The Lead Managing Dental Assistant contributes to the financial and non-financial success of the practice by ensuring that patients are the number one priority when they arrive at the practice. The Lead Managing Dental Assistant gains the trust of the patient within their licensure and/or training. 

Working under the Direction of the dentist and Operations Leader, the tasks and responsibilities of a Lead Managing Dental Assistant include but are but not limited to: 

  • Manages supply orders & inventory for the practice
  • Manages all back-office clinical assistants
  • Manages all equipment maintenanceMSDS log, and product updates as needed
  • Manages all Patient Post Ops 
  • Leads all emergency protocols within the office to ensure all clinical team members are trained and efficient in their responsibilities
  • Tracks all medical emergency medications and equipment to ensure practice is compliant with operating standards for the industry
  • Sets up/breaks down rooms and operatories to ensure a safe environment for the patients and doctors.
  • Prepares patient for treatment, sterilizes instruments and dental furniture, sets up trays and prepares materials
  • Assists dentist chairside during procedures
  • Takes quality / acceptable radiographs, x-rays, panoramic x-rays, digital scans and 3D images as prescribed by the dentist
  • Provides post operative instructions to patients as needed
  • Instructs patient in oral hygiene when appropriate
  • Chairside treatment coordination in operatory, collect payments chairside
  • Manages lab cases, keeps equipment maintenance logs up to date and prepares charts in advance for patient safety, office efficiency and the patient experience.
  • Enters relevant / important information and keeps records into the practice management in support of / under the direction of the dentist
  • Utilizes tools skills and talents to assist patients in making the best possible decision for their needs and helping them get healthier and happier.
  • Follow-up with proposed unscheduled treatment via phone
  • Has a yes mentality when helping patients.
  • Makes a positive first impression with patients by phone or in person.

  • Hold seland staff accountable for successful completion of projects, job duties, and all company deliverables.
  • Complete Continuing Education as required for self and staff. Follow required HIPAA and OSHA safety procedures, as necessary.
  • Exhibit outstanding customer service with patient as priority; partnering with staff, timely and successfully resolve patient complaints, concerns and questions. 
  • Continually build and nurture a positive working relationship with the Operations Leader, doctor(s), hygiene and patient coordinator
  • Strictly follow HIPAA and company standards to protect Protected Health Information (PHI) and patient personal and financial information including credit card, social security numbers etc.

  Required 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • License / training as required by their state/county/local licensing agency
  • X-ray certification as defined by their state / county/local licensing agency

Certifications 

  • Current state / county / local Dental Assisting License as defined by licensing agency
  • Current x-ray certification license as defined by licensing agency
