Regional West Medical Center is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician – Medication History to support our Pharmacy Department. In this specialized role, you will work closely with pharmacists and the care team to obtain accurate medication histories for patients upon admission, helping ensure safe and effective care. All work performed is reviewed and verified by a licensed pharmacist.
A Day in the Life
As a Medication History Pharmacy Technician, your day focuses on gathering accurate and complete medication information for patients being admitted to the hospital. You will interview patients, review medical records, and contact retail pharmacies or provider offices to verify current medications, including drug name, dose, route, frequency, and indication.
You will also verify patient allergy information and ensure all details are clearly and accurately documented in the electronic medical record to support clinical decision-making and patient safety.
Throughout the day, you will prioritize patients based on urgency and care needs, adapting quickly to a fast-paced hospital environment. You may utilize medication history software and state databases to ensure the most complete and up-to-date information is obtained.
In this role, you will collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, communicating clearly and professionally to support high-quality patient care. Your attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will play a critical role in preventing medication errors and improving patient outcomes.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Requirements
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- No drug-related felony or misdemeanor convictions
Licensure & Certification
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Nebraska upon hire
- CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) required within one year of registration (if applicable)
Experience
- Two years of pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required
- Retail pharmacy experience is a plus
