Description

Volunteer roles require a minimum of 8 hours per month for at least a 3-month commitment to maintain an active Volunteer status.


Guest Relations Volunteer - Guest Relations Volunteers will play a key role in impacting every guest’s experience while they visit OdySea Aquarium through assistance with guest ingress and egress, ticketing, wayfinding, Deep Ocean Theater and OdySea Voyager operations, and aiding with large groups and special events.


Gallery Guide Volunteers - Gallery Guide Volunteers aid the Education team by focusing on enhancing the guest experience through educational opportunities. Volunteers will spend time alongside Team Members in a supportive role with the opportunity to welcome and educate guests about diverse animals. Volunteers will be instrumental in the guest experience by contributing to educational opportunities at touch exhibits, roving engagement through aquarium galleries, and live interpretation at animal exhibits.


Aquarist Animal Care Volunteer - Aquarist Volunteers will be active in supporting daily operations such as husbandry and cleaning, diet preparation, enrichment creation, and guest engagement. Volunteers will spend time alongside OdySea Aquarium Team Members in a supportive and supervised environment with the opportunity to learn about diverse aquatic species such as saltwater and freshwater fishes, sharks, rays, invertebrates, reptiles, and amphibians.


Bird & Mammal Animal Care Volunteer - Bird and Mammal Volunteers will be instrumental in supporting daily operations such as husbandry and cleaning, diet preparation, enrichment creation, and guest engagement. Volunteers will spend time alongside Team Members in a supportive and supervised environment with the opportunity to learn about diverse animals such as California sea lions, African penguins, Asian small-clawed otters, Linneas’ two-toed sloths, and exotic avian species.


Gallery Guide, Aquarist, and Bird & Mammal Volunteer roles are required to follow all OdySea Aquarium Zoological Standard Operating Procedures (which may differ from general Aquarium Standard Operating Procedures), including those that prohibit wearing of jewelry.


Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by OdySea Aquarium Foundation and OdySea Aquarium, including zoological grooming standards for applicable roles.
  • Willingness to be flexible, learn, and multitask. Positive attitude, team oriented, responsible, and enthusiastic.
  • Proactively engage guests in a friendly and courteous manner while upholding standards of excellence in guest experience.
  • Comfortable greeting and engaging guests with the possibility of speaking on a microphone. Required to frequently talk and hear.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk.
  • Ability to complete tasks in an environment that may be loud, wet, or humid at times.
  • No impairment of senses that might interfere with the ability to complete tasks.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and able to access animal pools, exhibits, and enclosures. (Only applicable to Aquarist and Bird & Mammal roles)
