Job Title: Sheet Metal Shop Manager 

Job Purpose and Position Overview: The Sheet Metal Shop Manager leads people and processes, overseeing the day-to-day activities of our press brake, metal forming, tube bending and laser teams. They will lead business development to ensure profitability from outside jobs while simultaneously supplying Snow & Company internal jobs. This will include leading marketing and advertising. The Sheet Metal Shop Manager will direct their team with the goal of manufacturing the best possible products on time while maintaining a safe working environment, continuously improving processes, and spearheading initiatives to better develop employees in knowledge and competency. They will manage products and projects, prioritize jobs, and keep production on schedule. They must be able to respond positively to changes and challenges. They should be able to think outside the box to solve problems and willing to go the extra mile to ensure department goals are met. The ideal candidate will embrace the objectives and the culture of the company and can integrate them into daily decisions/actions consistently.

The ideal candidate will be highly creative and possess excellent time management skills, take pride in delivering exceptional work, and consistently demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Machine Shop 

  • Review products and projects adhering to the production process 
  • Lead and organize scheduling 
  • Coordinate production schedule 
  • Prioritize production elements 
  • Coordinate inventory requirements with purchasing 
  • Provide direction, and feedback for the machining team 
  • Identify gaps in production, training, or communication between machining and the rest of the company 
  • Develop SOPs for the sheet metal shop and the rest of management 
  • Quality control oversite for the sheet metal shop products 

 

Business Development

  • Help define business goals and direction 
  • Build positive relationships within and outside of the business 
  • Performs market research to find new and lucrative opportunities/customers 
  • Head operations of the sheet metal shop, finding gaps in efficiency or productiveness 
  • Grow the workforce as needed to benefit work functions and profitability 
  • Outside and inside sales (develop pipeline of customers) 

Develop CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system

 

 

Essential Skills:

  • 5 + years of experience in business management 
  • Knowledge of shop math and computers 
  • Effective communication across departments 
  • Knowledge of means and methods, material types, fabrication details, and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards 
  • Act independently and efficiently 
  • Strong collaboration skills with a team-oriented mindset
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement

 

 

Physical Requirements: 

The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:

  • The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders
  • Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks
  • Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
  • Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation
  • Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
  • The ability to use a respirator 
  • Regular exposure to noise from machinery and equipment

Pay and Benefits:

  • $110,000 - $150,000 / annually
