These positions are expected to run through the end of January 2027.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, Marketing Interns contribute to marketing efforts across our stores and digital channels and collaborate on projects to support the day-to-day work of the Marketing Department. Success requires creativity, sound judgment, accuracy, initiative, and the ability to produce polished work while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative concepts and translate marketing objectives into clear, compelling, on-brand communications appropriate for different audiences.
  • Contribute to graphic design, photography, visual content, copywriting, editing, and other creative work.
  • Write, proofread, and edit marketing content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, consistency, and appropriate University Book Store brand voice and tone.
  • Create and contribute ideas for timely social media content, including graphics, photography, copy, and short-form content.
  • Help keep website content and navigation fresh, accurate, relevant, and useful by updating promotional content, imagery, messaging, and other assigned elements.
  • Work efficiently while balancing planned projects with short-turnaround assignments and changing priorities, maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager, Marketing team, merchandise buyers, department managers, and store teams to understand needs and effectively market products, services, promotions, and events.
  • Stay current with University Book Store marketing plans and relevant UW and campus calendars to anticipate events, milestones, seasonal opportunities, and content needs.
  • Support hands-on execution of marketing activities, including printing, trimming, mounting and installing signage; assisting with photo shoots, promotions, activations, and special events; and maintaining organized creative assets.
  • Bring ideas and a student perspective to the Marketing team and contribute wherever needed to help the department execute its work effectively.

Areas of Strength

Candidates should demonstrate particular strength in one or more of the following:

  • Graphic Design: Visual design, typography, layout, brand identity and execution, print and digital applications, and Adobe Creative Cloud tools such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Photography & Visual Content: Composition, lighting, visual storytelling, image selection and editing, and product, lifestyle, event, or social media photography.
  • Marketing & Content: Copywriting, proofreading and editing, audience and brand judgment, social media, website content, campaign execution, and event support.

Qualifications

  • Coursework or academic focus in graphic design, visual communication, photography, marketing, advertising, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated creative, marketing, or communications ability through a portfolio, work samples, relevant experience, or coursework.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality, including strong writing, proofreading, and editing instincts.
  • Ability to work efficiently while managing multiple assignments, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, with the initiative and reliability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to receive feedback and creative direction and translate it effectively into finished work.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, contribute outside a primary area of expertise, and participate in the full range of Marketing Department work.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating content for social media platforms such as Instagram or TikTok.
  • Familiarity with tools or platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut, Shopify, or other creative, e-commerce, or digital marketing systems.
