Cost Accountant

Specific Role:

We’re looking for an analytical, detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support EMIT Technologies’ financial reporting and cost management activities. In this role, you’ll prepare and maintain cost accounting records, analyze manufacturing and operational costs, reconcile inventory and cost variances, and support budgeting and forecasting. You’ll work closely with Operations, Production, Procurement, and Finance to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve profitability, and ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.

Key Accountabilities:

• Prepare, analyze, and maintain standard costs for products and services
• Monitor manufacturing costs, inventory valuations, and cost variances, providing accurate and timely analysis
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities related to inventory and cost accounting
• Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs and recommend process improvements
• Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, financial projections, and related cost assumptions
• Develop and distribute cost, variance, and profitability reports to support management decision-making
• Interpret financial and operational data and provide meaningful recommendations to business leaders
• Support inventory cycle counts and physical inventory processes
• Partner with Operations, Purchasing, and Production to improve cost controls and operational efficiencies
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, and increase profitability
• Maintain accurate cost accounting records and supporting documentation
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal control procedures
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing required documentation, reconciliations, and analyses
• Perform additional accounting and finance responsibilities based on organizational needs

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
• Three to five years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or a related accounting role
• Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and financial reporting
• Experience maintaining standard costs and analyzing material, labor, overhead, inventory, and manufacturing variances
• Experience using an ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar software required
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis, required
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial and inventory records
• Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate meaningful findings and recommendations
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information
• Self-motivated and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
