Surgical technician will work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of in-office surgical procedures, ensuring that the procedure room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The technician handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure; has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon; and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

Location: Full-time 3333 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota

Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):

• Perform chart prep for upcoming procedures
• Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions to patients
• Obtain the necessary patient consents for treatment
• Triage and prepare patients for procedures
• Prepare the procedure room with the appropriate equipment, medication/solutions and supplies according to the surgeon’s preference and established protocols
• Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique at all times
• Assist the surgeon during procedures as instructed
• Perform instrument, sponge and sharp counts before, during and post procedure
• Sanitize the procedure room between cases and as needed
• Perform sterilization procedures on all equipment, sharps or other items deemed necessary
• Properly label specimen and arrange for pick-up 
• Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and notify the coordinator of supply needs

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate from surgical technology program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST and ACS, by CAAHEP
• Associates Degree or higher preferred 
• Current Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) by the NBSTSA
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Expertise of anatomy, vascular procedures and sterile technique
• Knowledge of surgical instruments and terminology
