POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Midwife will provide culturally responsive, participant-centered prenatal, postpartum, and lactation support to individuals enrolled in the Healthy Start Enhanced San Bernardino (HSSB) program. The Midwife will provide individualized clinical support in-person or via telehealth (accommodating to the participants needed) while also facilitating two weekly perinatal education and support groups throughout San Bernardino County.
The Midwife will work collaboratively with HSSB Care Coordinators, program staff, healthcare providers, and community partners to support healthy pregnancies, births, postpartum experiences, breastfeeding, and infant well-being. The Midwife will assist with the early identification of maternal and infant health concerns, provide education and support, facilitate appropriate referrals and warm hand-offs, and promote participant connections to healthcare and community resources.
In addition to direct participant services, the Midwife will coordinate the planning and implementation of two weekly HSSB groups. This includes managing group schedules, dates, times, locations, educational themes, activities, and participant engagement strategies.
The Midwife will provide services within the scope of their professional licensure and applicable laws, regulations, and Global Communities policies and procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Group Education & Management
The Midwife will facilitate two weekly perinatal education and support groups at locations throughout San Bernardino County to increase access to HSSB services and provide participants with opportunities for education, peer support, and connection to resources. Groups may include prenatal, postpartum, lactation, newborn, and family-centered education based on participant needs and HSSB program priorities. The Midwife will be responsible for coordinating the operational logistics of the two weekly groups, in collaboration with the HSSB Program Director and Care Coordination team.

- Develop and maintain a schedule for two weekly HSSB groups
- Coordinate group dates, times, and locations throughout San Bernardino County.
- Consider geographic accessibility and participant needs when selecting group locations.
- Coordinate with HSSB staff and community partners regarding group space and availability.
- Develop a rotating schedule of group topics, themes, and educational activities.
- Develop or identify appropriate educational materials and activities for each group.
- Incorporate participant feedback and emerging needs into group topics and activities.
- Coordinate guest speakers, community partners, or subject matter experts when appropriate.
- Communicate group schedules and changes to HSSB Care Coordinators and Program staff in a timely manner.
- Coordinate necessary materials and clinical supplies for group activities and basic health screenings.
- Work with HSSB staff to ensure appropriate participant support and coverage during group sessions.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements
Outreach, Community Partnership & Staff Training
- Assist with the drafting of communication tools including group flyers and educational resources
- Participate in HSSB staff meetings, required trainings, and program activities consistent with the approved part-time schedule.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, birth centers, lactation professionals, and community organizations.
- Represent Healthy Start at community meetings, outreach events, and partner activities.
- Support outreach efforts to increase awareness of Healthy Start services and strengthen referral pathways.
- Serve as a maternal and infant health subject matter expert for program staff and community partners.
- Provide training and consultation on topics including early maternal warning signs, breastfeeding, newborn care, safe sleep, and maternal health best practices.
Documentation, Compliance & Program Reporting
- Maintain records in accordance with Healthy Start requirements, professional standards, HIPAA, and Global Communities policies and procedures.
- Track group participation, 1:1 services, and referrals activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed Midwife (LM) in the State of California in good standing or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) licensed to practice in California.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience providing clinical prenatal, postpartum, lactation, and/or maternal-infant health services.
- Experience providing services to pregnant and postpartum individuals in community-based, outpatient, home-visiting, or public health settings.
- Current CPR/BLS certification is appropriate to the provider's scope of practice.
- Must maintain all required professional credentials, certifications, and liability coverage.
- Ability to provide services within the scope of professional licensure and applicable California laws, regulations, and Global Communities policies and procedures.
- Understanding of birth equity and maternal health disparities, particularly within Black and underserved communities.
- Ability to establish trusting relationships with participants from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience facilitating educational groups, workshops, support groups, or prenatal education programs.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout San Bernardino County.
Preferred Qualifications
- International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential or advanced lactation training.
- Lived experience or demonstrated cultural connection with communities served by Healthy Start San Bernardino.
