There may be an opportunity for an extension after the first year. POSITION SUMMARY: The Language Apprentice Teacher Candidate (LATC) is responsible for language learning of the Comanche language (leading to full conversational proficiency). The LATC will also be responsible for teaching the Comanche language. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend and participate in daily Comanche language immersion sessions. Participate in self-study activities outside of the normal Comanche language immersion hours. Meets or exceeds target proficiency goals as set by the program Director. Meeting these proficiency goals is a requirement for ongoing employment as an LATC. Meet one-on-one with Mentor-Speakers of Comanche language and in group settings. Responsible for documentation, compliance, and verifying participant progress in Comanche Language activities. Contribute to creation of lesson plans and learning materials for the Comanche language. Identify sources of information for teaching Comanche language. Participate in joint language revitalization efforts with various individuals, linguists and other academics. Promote the activities of the Comanche Nation Language Department to the general public. Upon reaching conversational proficiency in level I, II, and III, LATC's will be assigned specific job duties in one or more of these program areas including, but not limited to, community classes, public schools, and early childcare programs, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. REPORTS TO: Will report to the Language Department Director. Does not possess supervisory responsibilities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear and see. Employee must be able to move and lift computing equipment. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5pm. Some weekends and evenings. Travel Required: Occasionally WORK ENVIRONMENT: Majority of work will be performed in an office or classroom setting with some field work outside and outreach activities.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required. Must be motived, self-starter and able to work independently. Second Language Learning training or facilitator training highly recommended. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in the classroom and with the public. Basic office and internet computer skills, and other software programs needed to perform job duties. Cooperates with all team members and leadership. Ability to develop and implement inquiry and hands-on learning strategies; ability to be creative and to be flexible in thinking. Must be available for flexible work hours and work locations as necessary to carry out duties of the position. Ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, both verbally and in writing. Must possess a Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and be insurable under the Comanche Nation's Motor Vehicle Policy. Must be willing to submit to and pass Drug Testing. Must be willing to submit to and pass a Federal Background Investigation, employment will be contingent upon successful completion.
