  • The role requires a minimum of 3 years of Tool & Die or precision machining experience in a manufacturing setting, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in progressive dies.
  • Key responsibilities include diagnosing tooling issues, operating manual machine shop equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety standards while maintaining production documentation.
  • Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, with a technical certificate in Tool & Die or Precision Manufacturing preferred, and must be able to read blueprints and engineering drawings.

Position Overview

Masterack is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker with hands-on experience building, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting dies and production tooling used in a manufacturing environment.

This is a skilled-trades position and is not a general Machine Operator, CNC Operator, Maintenance Technician, or Production position.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with stamping/forming dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and precision tooling.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, repair, modify, and maintain dies, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Troubleshoot production dies and tooling to identify wear, damage, alignment issues, and other failures.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, fit, and reassemble dies and tooling.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on production dies and tooling.
  • Read and interpret tooling drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD prints.
  • Machine replacement or repair components using mills, lathes, surface grinders, CNC equipment, and other tool-room machinery.
  • Fit and assemble tooling components to tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Support die tryouts, adjustments, troubleshooting, and production improvements.
  • Work with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime caused by tooling issues.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on Tool & Die Maker, Die Maker, Toolmaker, or closely related tool-room experience.
  • Direct experience building, repairing, maintaining, or troubleshooting production dies/tooling.
  • Experience with metal stamping or forming dies strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings, and dimensional specifications.
  • Experience using manual mills, lathes, grinders, or similar tool-room equipment.
  • Experience working to tight tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers and calipers.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Progressive or stamping dies
  • Die repair and maintenance
  • Die setup and tryout
  • CNC machining
  • EDM
  • Surface grinding
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Tool steels and metal properties
  • Heat-treatment knowledge
  • Automotive or high-volume manufacturing
  • Preventive tooling maintenance
  • Lean Manufacturing / 5S

Important: General machine operation, CNC production operation, maintenance, welding, or manufacturing experience alone does not meet the experience requirements for this position. We are specifically looking for candidates with hands-on experience building, repairing, maintaining, or troubleshooting dies and production tooling.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs require.
