Overview

The Portfolio Manager I provides commercial lending, portfolio management, and client support for Univest's Commercial Banking team.
 
This role partners closely with Relationship Managers to analyze financial information, manage credit risk, support loan origination and servicing activities, and deliver exceptional customer service to commercial clients.
 
Based in Souderton and West Chester, this position will work between both locations while building strong client relationships and ensuring compliance with commercial lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 


Responsibilities

 

Commercial Loan and Portfolio Support 

  • Prepare the approval package using a Loan Origination System in collaboration with the Relationship Manager to outline the structure, terms, and conditions of the loan facility for new loan origination and renewals/modifications of existing loans. 
  • Prepare memos for the credit file and underwriting approvals, when necessary. 
  • Analyze customer financial information in preparation for upcoming loan requests, covenant tests, or annual reviews. 
  • Ability to prepare financial performance analysis including but not limited to cash flow analysis and collateral analysis for deal screen preparation and underwriting purposes. 
  • Accountable for facilitating and/or completing covenant compliance testing. 
  • Review the customer’s risk profile through interpreting financial information, testing loan covenants, and evaluating other non-financial factors. 
  • Provide support to the loan origination process through independently assessing the due diligence required for every specific request. 
  • Facilitate ordering and reviewing all necessary due diligence searches, including but not limited to real estate searches, lien searches, credit reports, background checks, and OFAC reports. 
  • Provide support to the commercial loan process by ordering and reviewing appraisal and environmental reports. 
  • Provide support to the loan closing process, such as determining pre-close items required for loan settlement. This may include, but not be limited to obtaining insurance documentation, communicating directly with title companies, and being responsible for review and final approval of loan coding. 
  • Partner with Bank Counsel in preparation for loan closings.  
  • Accountable for reviewing loan documentation for accuracy. 
  • Provide post-closing support through follow-up with customers, Bank Counsel, and title companies, when necessary. 
  • Monitor and track monthly reporting including but not limited to maturing loans, annual reviews, and exception reporting.  
  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Administrators, and Customers in clearing exceptions.  
  • Provide support to Commercial Lending Team in satisfying requirements for construction advances. 
  • Lead the Audit Preparation for internal and external audits, including but not limited to reviewing files for completeness, file organization, evaluating loan coding accuracy, and preparing responses in collaboration with Relationship Manager. 
  • Accountable for compliance with laws and regulations that apply to this position including the Univest Code of Conduct. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Customer Service & Support 

  • Establish operational relationship with designated clients to handle routine daily operational issues and client requests. 
  • Support Relationship Managers in preparation and attendance at client meetings and loan closings. 
  • Communicate with Relationship Managers and Customers to gather required financial information needed from customers. 

Qualifications

 

  • Communication/Relationship-Builder: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Clearly communicate in a professional manner through verbal, nonverbal, and written communication. Engage with external customers and effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.  
  • Detail-Oriented: Maintain strong organization and effective time-management to handle multiple priorities at any given time. Focus on small details when completing tasks in a timely manner.  
  • Financial Analysis: Ability to independently assess customer’s financial information to determine repayment capacity, collateral coverage, and strength of balance sheet. Confidently prepare financial performance analysis for deal screen and underwriting purposes. 
  • Risk Management: Ability to monitor performance of existing portfolio through interpreting financial information, testing covenants, and evaluating other non-financial factors to assess the credit risk profile.  Ensure customer compliance, portfolio performance, and asset quality remain strong. Collaborate with Relationship Manager and other partners in the organization to propose strategies and actions to limit risk and loss to the Bank.  
  • Self-Management: Maintain composure in high-pressure situations.  Ability to handle most problems/exceptions in an independent manner. Exude a professional attitude and willingness to be collaborative. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance and/or equivalent experience in related area. 
  • Trained Financial Analyst with a minimum of four years of comparable industry experience. 
  • Software Proficiency: Microsoft Teams or equivalent, Video Conferencing, Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, PowerPoint and SharePoint 

 

Experience/Skills Preferred: 

  • Prior Salesforce and nCino experience 
  • Knowledge of commercial lending processes and procedures
