JOB SUMMARY: Business Manager/Bookkeeper 

Primary responsibilities include; Accounts Receivable/Payable, Human Resources, Payroll, Financial Reports, Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director, General Office Management, Supervision of Support Department, Database Management. The Business Manager/Bookkeeper must be able to manage and prioritize job duties, meeting many and varying deadlines with a high level of accuracy, maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.


ASSIGNMENT: Provide smooth day-to-day operation of the office and finances of SEIU Local 284.

 

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Bookkeeping - Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable / Payroll

Financial – Monthly reports, Various Audits, Manage Banking Accounts

Human Resources – New/terminating employees, insurance, pensions/401K.

Office Manager – Oversee all aspects of office and building maintenance; manage support staff.

Computers – Manage database and website, working with IT and programmers.

Meetings – attend monthly board/member meetings and prepare minutes.

 

OTHER AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Make Travel Arrangements for Staff and/or members

Maintain orderly files; purge as per retention schedule.

Run reports as requested.

Ability to plan work independently.

Physical Involvement: 

A. Requires extended periods of sitting.

B. Frequent repetitive action on keyboard.

C. Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.

D. Requires some bending, stooping to reach file drawers.


Mental Involvement: 

A. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines.

B. Ability to respond to or make quick decisions.

C. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

D. Exercises a high level of confidentiality in handling Union and member information.

E. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.

F. Ability to think and plan strategically.

 

Working Conditions: Flexibility and willingness to work additional hours including weekends when required.

 

Supervision of Other Employees: Dues Coordinator, Communications and Office Support

 

MIMUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of the following college courses preferred: Human Resources, and Accounting. Computer courses including Word, Excel and SharePoint are required.


Experience: Three or more years of human resources, accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and office management experience required. Prior Union experience required.


Special Knowledge or Skills: 

A. Proficiency with computers and applications; Microsoft Office with an emphasis on SharePoint and Quick Books.

B. Database Management

C. Good human relations skills.
