SUMMARY:
This work involves the performing of a variety of routine tasksin, and around, an
Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and collection system. Work is performed following clearly
prescribed standard operating procedures and readily understood department rules and procedures.
Operator Ill works under the direct supervision of the Water Pollution Control Foreman or other
designated supervisors. Completes all related work as required. This position requires on-call, on a rotating
on-callschedule, for in plant and off plant emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs sewer linemaintenance including jetting, vacuuming, TV inspections etc.
2. Performs housekeeping tasks at the treatment plant and pump stationsincluding sweeping, mopping,
washing, dusting, painting, etc.
3. Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. Documents readings and observes variations in
operating conditions. Collects sludge samples for lab analysis.
4. Performs tank and channel maintenance such as cleaning and painting.
5. Operates, and drives, automotive and mechanical equipment such as jet/vac truck, TV
6. inspection vehicle, forklifts, skid steer, etc.
7. Operates sludge thickening processes and polymer feed systems.
8. Operates valves, pump engines, and generators manually or by remote control.Performs grounds
maintenance such as snow removal, mowing, trimming, etc.Monitors the loading of liquid sludge to
tanker trucks.
9. Lubricates motors and other equipment.
10. Performs routine preventative maintenance work as directed.Performs routine simple laboratory
tests.
11. Occasionally works under unpleasant conditions, including fumes and odors.
12. Performs on-call duties for emergencies within the plant and collection system.
13. Opens manholes to gain access to wastewater collection system.
14. Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
• Must possess a State of Connecticut Wastewater Operator III license.
• State of Connecticut CDL Class B License with tanker endorsement within 1 year after
being hired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds.
• Must be able to walk on uneven ground.
• Must be able to climb and descend ladders.
• Ability to work outside for lengths of time during severe heat and cold weather.

EVALUATION:
Performance to be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
