Smith Industries is seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to join our team. This position will support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of our Health, Safety, and Environmental programs while working closely with employees and leadership to promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on HSE experience in a manufacturing, oil & gas, or industrial environment and be comfortable spending time on the shop floor identifying hazards, coaching employees, conducting investigations, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Conduct facility safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments and track corrective actions through completion. 
  •  Lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions. 
  •  Develop and deliver safety training, including new hire orientation, refresher training, task-specific training, and regulatory training. 
  •  Support and administer HSE programs including PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, Hazard Communication, and respiratory protection
  •  Promote hazard recognition, JSA/JHA development, safe job planning, and stop-work authority. 
  •  Coordinate emergency response planning and drills. 
  •  Maintain HSE documentation, training records, inspection records, permits, and OSHA 300/300A logs. 
  •  Support environmental compliance activities, including SWPPP, SPCC, air permitting, and waste management
  •  Assist with contractor safety onboarding, pre-qualification, orientation, and ongoing compliance. 
  •  Participate in safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and daily pre-task safety meetings. 
  •  Track safety performance indicators and recommend opportunities to continuously improve the HSE program. 
Qualifications:

  •  Minimum 3–5 years of HSE experience in an oil & gas, manufacturing, or industrial environment. 
  •  Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926
  •  Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions. 
  •  Experience developing and delivering safety training. 
  •  Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. 
  •  Ability to work effectively with employees and leadership at all levels of the organization. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  •  Knowledge of environmental compliance requirements, including TCEQ and EPA regulations, preferred. 
Education & Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred. An associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Professional safety certifications such as SSH, CSHO, ASP, or CSP are desired. 

Physical Requirements:

This is a hands-on safety position that requires regular presence in shop, yard, and field environments. The position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate stairs and ladders, work around confined spaces and elevated platforms, work outdoors, wear required PPE, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
