Baystate Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Respiratory Care team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Respiratory Therapists provide comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients across adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams to evaluate, diagnose, and treat respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions.
This role offers the opportunity to provide meaningful clinical care across emergency, acute, and critical care settings while developing expertise in advanced respiratory therapies and supporting patients throughout their care journey.
The Respiratory Therapist Will:
- Perform patient assessments, including physical examinations and interpretation of diagnostic data, to identify respiratory and cardiopulmonary needs.
- Perform and collect diagnostic information, including pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, blood gas analysis, and noninvasive and invasive diagnostic procedures.
- Administer respiratory care therapies, including medical gas, humidity, aerosol, and airway clearance therapies.
- Manage artificial airways and provide invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Assess patient response to therapy and make appropriate adjustments based on clinical condition and laboratory results, communicating recommendations to physicians and the care team.
- Provide respiratory care during emergency, acute, and critical care situations, including responding to Rapid Response and Code Blue events.
- Participate in disease management, discharge planning, case management, and patient transport, including ground and air transport as appropriate.
- Support advanced therapies and procedures, including vascular catheter care and Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS), while maintaining equipment, safety, infection control, and quality standards.

Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential is required.
- Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to provide respiratory care to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
- Ability to assess patients, interpret diagnostic information, and safely administer respiratory therapies.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred.
- Previous hospital-based respiratory therapy experience.
- Experience caring for critically ill patients.
- Experience with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Experience with advanced respiratory therapies and Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS).
