NORA operates with a mission-first philosophy centered on safety, professionalism, operational excellence, accountability, operational readiness, and chain-of-custody integrity.

Job Description:

The Senior HR Generalist is a core member of NORA's Human Resources team, serving an organization of 1,100+ employees operating across more than 60 bases nationwide in a 24/7 organ-transportation logistics environment. This is a hands-on role that requires a skilled HR professional who is equally comfortable building relationships with frontline employees and navigating complex employee relations matters. The HR Generalist is a trusted, visible presence for employees and managers across NORA's distributed workforce, bringing both rigor and empathy to every interaction. With a primary focus on recruiting and employee relations, this role partners closely with the Director, Employee Experience & Talent to deliver consistent, compliant, and mission-aligned HR support across the full employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for dispatchers, corporate office-based positions, and field-based positions as needed.
  • Screen applicants, conduct structured behavioral-based interviews, and facilitate the selection process in alignment with NORA's mission, values, and competency framework.
  • Maintain applicant tracking records; generate recruiting metrics and pipeline reports for the Director and leadership team.
  • Serve as a primary employee relations resource for frontline employees and managers — a visible, accessible, and trusted point of contact for concerns, questions, and guidance.
  • Conduct thorough, timely, and unbiased investigations into employee complaints, policy violations, and conduct issues; document findings and recommend appropriate resolution.
  • Partner with managers to administer corrective action, progressive discipline, and performance improvement plans (PIPs) in a consistent and legally sound manner, while partnering with Director.
  • Support managers through difficult employee conversations including performance concerns, conflict resolution, and separations — providing coaching, documentation guidance, and real-time backup.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and confidential documentation for all employee relations matters.
  • Interpret and apply HR policies and applicable employment law (federal, state, and local) to employee relations situations across NORA's multi-state footprint.
  • Coordinate leave administration (FMLA, ADA, state leave) by engaging the interactive process, issuing required paperwork, and tracking time off taken.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims from initial reporting through closure, partnering with HR Leadership and management as needed.
  • Respond to unemployment claims.
  • Serve as backup to the Payroll Manager for payroll processing, ensuring continuity of pay operations during staff absences.
  • Learn and maintain proficiency in payroll processing procedures to be fully prepared to step in when needed.
  • Support the preparation of HR reports, compliance filings, and audit documentation as directed.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and employee-facing resources.
  • Facilitate and continuously improve NORA's new-hire orientation process, ensuring employees are introduced to the mission, values, and culture from day one.
  • Coordinate role-specific onboarding plans with functional leaders and operations teams to accelerate time to productivity across NORA's diverse roles.
  • Serve as backup to the HR Coordinator for onboarding activities.
  • Coordinate exit interviews, off boarding, separation trends, and share findings with the Director to support retention and employee-experience improvements.
  • Support NORA's participation in engagement initiatives & community engagement activities that connect employees to the organ donation ecosystem and NORA's mission.

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated depth in employee relations.
  • Proven ability to conduct workplace investigations and manage ER matters with sound judgment, discretion, and appropriate documentation.
  • Experience administering corrective action frameworks and supporting progressive discipline processes.
  • Full-cycle recruiting experience across a variety of positions; experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS).
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment law including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, and state-specific requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust and credibility with all employees and managers.
  • High degree of discretion, professional judgment, and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, healthcare, or other regulated, mission-driven industries.
