About BoxHouse
BoxHouse designs and delivers factory-built modular housing for residential and commercial applications. We
are building a more efficient path from product design through permitting, manufacturing, installation, and
occupancy.
Position Overview
BoxHouse is seeking a Permitting and Regulatory Approvals Manager to join our team at our Meridian, Idaho
office and lead permitting efforts for customer projects across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
This person will understand the plan-submittal requirements, review procedures, approval standards, and
administrative processes of the governing bodies with which BoxHouse works. The role will coordinate each
permit application from initial requirements research through approval, helping customers and internal
teams avoid delays and unnecessary revisions.
A key responsibility will be working with state and local agencies to place eligible BoxHouse models into
pre-approved plan libraries or similar programs, allowing future permit applications to move as quickly and
predictably as possible.
Key Responsibilities
• Research and maintain current permitting requirements for the states, counties, municipalities, and other
governing bodies where BoxHouse projects are located.
• Prepare, organize, and submit complete building-permit application packages on behalf of BoxHouse
customers.
• Coordinate with in-house architects, engineers, CAD designers, project managers, and installation teams
to ensure applications satisfy all applicable requirements.
• Review plan sets and supporting documents for completeness before submission.
• Communicate directly with building departments, plan reviewers, inspectors, fire authorities, utilities, and
other agencies.
• Manage plan-review comments and coordinate timely responses, revisions, and resubmittals.
• Identify opportunities to place standardized BoxHouse plans in state and local pre-approved plan libraries.
• Develop working relationships with permitting authorities and understand their preferred submission and
review processes.
• Track application status, approval timelines, outstanding requirements, fees, and permit conditions.
• Build standardized permitting checklists, document templates, jurisdiction profiles, and internal
workflows.
• Identify recurring approval issues and work with the product team to incorporate solutions into future
BoxHouse designs.
• Help create a scalable permitting system that supports BoxHouse projects across multiple markets.
Preferred Qualifications
• Direct experience working for a state, county, municipal, or other local permitting or building authority is
strongly preferred.
• Firsthand knowledge of building-permit intake, plan review, approvals, inspections, or code
administration.
• Experience with residential construction, modular housing, manufactured buildings, factory-built
structures, or commercial permitting.
• Familiarity with building codes, zoning requirements, site-plan review, utility coordination, and related
regulatory processes.
• Experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and government agencies.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple applications across different jurisdictions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret technical plans, identify missing information, and clearly communicate agency
requirements.
• Experience with electronic permitting portals and digital plan-review systems.
• A degree or certification related to construction management, architecture, engineering, planning, code
administration, or a related field is helpful but not required.
• Ability to work full-time, in person at the BoxHouse office in Meridian, Idaho.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate understands permitting from the government reviewer’s perspective and knows how to
prepare clear, complete applications that minimize review cycles. This person is organized, persistent,
professional, and comfortable developing productive relationships with public agencies.
They will be motivated by the opportunity to build a streamlined, repeatable permitting system that makes
purchasing and deploying a BoxHouse easier for every customer.
