Job Summary

The Admissions Resource Nurse will provide professional nursing care to patients as they are admitted to Camber Hospitals through careful assessment and documentation. The Admissions Resource Nurse will work closely with the other hospital departments to ensure safe, high-quality patient care is provided. This position will also be used to assist in teaching and guiding nursing staff throughout the assigned shift.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certification:  Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri. 

Valid driver’s license and auto insurance. Must be at least 21 years old.

Experience: Three to six months’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience/Skills: Requires intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook email.


Key Responsibilities

Nursing services include taking medication orders and supervising the dispensing of medications; charting and medical record keeping; assessing medical health concerns, including infection control and assuring that needs are met in a timely manner; working with the staff nutritionist to meet patient dietary needs; communicating with case managers or adults in charge of the patients physical health; assisting with injuries and accidents; and consultation with direct care staff.

  • · Practice conduct that displays respect for all KVC colleagues and community stakeholders regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, ethnicity, or veteran status

    · Complete all aspects of nursing admission assessments and documentation in a timely fashion

    · Coordinate with admissions, nursing, and milieu to ensure accurate and timely communication of patient information

    · Work closely with admissions department, psychiatry, medical team, and nursing to ensure pending patient admissions are appropriate for the population served

    · Support inpatient and residential units as a member of nursing team

    · Responding to patients with behavioral crises as part of the safety/code team

    · May be responsible for patient case load in addition to admission duties during times of high patient census

    · Assist the Charge Nurse to support and guide nursing staff throughout assigned shift

    · Maintains professional, clinical and technical competencies as required by governing bodies and Camber Hospitals policies

    · Completes nursing health assessment on all patients (including PPC) at admission within 24 hours for Psychiatric Hospital, within 72 hours after admission to KVC residential and emergency services

    · When a nursing consult is requested, document in the patient's chart all injuries, illnesses, behavior problems, admission, discharges, doctor orders, doctor visits, therapies, treatments, labs, X-rays, and ER visits

    · Ensures proper medications are available for the patient during their stay

    · Reviews all doctor's orders in time to receive new medication and/or implement orders before leaving shift when appropriate as deemed medically necessary

    · Notifies the pharmacy in a timely and accurate manner of new orders

    · Accurately receives and transcribes doctor's orders

    · Notifies proper individuals concerning patient's status

    · Dispenses medication, including narcotics, monitors medication passes as needed

    · Applies First Aid to patients and staff when necessary

    · Monitors allergies of each patient

    · After addressing the following and obtaining orders as necessary, reports any rashes, elevated temperatures, diarrheas, vomiting, stiff neck, sore throats lasting three (3) days, dizziness, unsteady gait, severs headaches, vision problems, injuries other than a simple cut or bruise, unexplained pain, and head injuries, etc. to the physician

    · Communicates in the Nursing Turnover Book any and all patient medical concerns and problems

    · Communicates verbally and in the unit Turnover Book any necessary communication for the safe and accurate care of the patients

    · Performs special procedures and treatments under the direction of a licensed physician, then documents the procedure and outcome in the MAR, Nursing Turnover Book, and in the patient's progress notes in the chart

    · Accurately monitors and documents on MAR's

    · Communicates with dietary any new or changes in patient diets, also reports any allergies of a patient to dietary

    · Administers all PRN psychotropic medications under the direct order of SLC Camber doctor

    · Transcribes order without using medical terminology when possible

    · Reports to the Nursing Supervisor of any reportable infectious disease

    · Demonstrate proper usage of the EEG and glucometer machines

Additional duties may be assigned based on organizational needs and staff qualifications.

 

Physical & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently move throughout the facility and within patient care/work areas, including standing and walking for extended periods; use hands and fingers to operate equipment and controls and to complete documentation; and communicate effectively with others. The employee may be required to reach, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may also need to sit occasionally and perform tasks requiring close visual attention, including the ability to observe the environment and monitor for safety concerns.

This role may require the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull items or equipment as job duties require, including up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Because this is a safety-sensitive role, the employee must be able to maintain appropriate alertness and attention to perform duties safely during scheduled work hours and to respond appropriately to changing conditions. The role may involve working with patients who may exhibit unsafe behaviors or require assistance with activities of daily living.
