Job Summary

The Staff Aide provides administrative, operational, and general support to the parish staff in carrying out the daily activities and ministries of the Catholic parish. This position helps maintain an organized, welcoming, and professional parish environment while assisting parishioners, visitors, volunteers, clergy, and staff. The Staff Aide may assist with office duties, parish communications, events, meetings, ministry programs, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: Provide general clerical support, including filing, copying, organizing documents, preparing materials, maintaining records, and assisting with routine office tasks.

  • Parish Office Operations: Assist with the daily operations of the parish office and provide support to staff members with administrative and organizational needs.

  • Reception and Customer Service: Welcome parishioners, visitors, volunteers, and guests in a friendly and professional manner. Answer routine questions and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff member or ministry.

  • Communication: Answer phones, respond to routine inquiries, take messages, distribute information, and assist with parish communications as directed.

  • Parish Events and Activities: Assist with the preparation, setup, coordination, and cleanup of parish events, meetings, Masses, ministry activities, religious education programs, and community gatherings.

  • Facility and Supply Support: Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming parish spaces. Assist with room setup, event preparation, supplies, and other facility-related needs.

  • Ministry Support: Provide general assistance to parish ministries, programs, and volunteers as assigned by parish staff.

  • Parishioner Assistance: Provide courteous and respectful assistance to parishioners and help connect individuals with appropriate parish resources, programs, or staff.

  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality when handling parish records, personal information, correspondence, and other sensitive matters.

  • Teamwork: Work cooperatively with the Pastor, clergy, parish staff, volunteers, ministry leaders, and members of the parish community.

  • Professionalism: Represent the parish in a positive, respectful, and welcoming manner and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of individuals and families within the parish community.

  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Pastor, Parish Administrator, or designated supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: Previous administrative, office, customer service, nonprofit, volunteer, or parish experience preferred but not required.

  • Skills:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Friendly, welcoming, and service-oriented approach.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
    • Ability to work effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, parishioners, and visitors.
    • Basic computer, email, and office technology skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
    • Flexibility and willingness to assist with a variety of parish activities and needs.
  • Faith and Community: Respect for and willingness to support the mission, values, and Catholic identity of the parish. Familiarity with Catholic traditions, parish ministries, and church activities is preferred.
