Position Summary

The Registered Medication Aide is responsible for administering medications to residents in a timely and accurate manner while following all Medication Administration policies and procedures. Working under the direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the Director of Assisted Living, the RMA supports residents' health, safety, and overall well-being in accordance with physician orders, company policies, industry standards, and state and federal regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Administer medications in accordance with Medication Administration policies and procedures
  • Accurately document medication administration and resident observations
  • Monitor residents for changes in condition and report concerns to nursing staff
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed
  • Ensure resident safety, comfort, and dignity at all times
  • Follow physician orders and individualized care plans
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, state regulations, and industry standards
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members

Note: RMAs may administer approved medications but may not administer injections, IV medications, or medications through G-tubes, J-tubes, or nasogastric tubes.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience in basic nursing assistant procedures preferred

Certifications

  • Successful completion of a state-approved Medication Aide training program and competency evaluation
  • Successful completion of facility orientation program
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
  • Current Medication Aide certification
  • Must be in good standing with no allegations of abuse or neglect
  • Current required in-service training

Additional Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to resident needs
  • Compassionate, reliable, and team-oriented approach to care
